Memo to Dave:

Dear Dave, If you want to see the infusion of energy and wins that can happen when a quality coach is signed, look no further than NYRB. Three wins in the last three games.

Look too at Nottingham Forest over in England. (Perhaps one of the Forest supporters on our group gave give precise details.) They were in the bottom third of the table last season with a losing record. With about a dozen games left, they replaced the coach. The team went on a tear going something like 7 wins, a few draws, and just one loss in their next 10 matches getting on the brink of playoff position (top 6 get promoted or go to playoffs in their division) before finally losing a game or two near the end and finishing a couple of spots out of the playoffs, but have great momentum and potential for next season.

Hate to say it, but it really may be time for a change which hopefully can bring this team back to life. At home you play to win, not for a string of goal-less draws. Even without the gut-wrenching last second goal by the visitors on Saturday, a lot of fans would have left RES disappointed and unimpressed. If you want to be attractive to paying fans, you have to win a lot at home, and even more importantly, you need to have the home side put a ball in the back of the next once in a while.

Just a note mention that two people from my work took their wives to the game. Both said they wouldn't go to another. One of them didn't make it to the fireworks. Too boring. I asked him if it was the scoring. He said they could live without goals....but there were not shots.

I checked the box score too make sure. There were a grand total of five shots on goal in the game. We had two. Defend the sport all you want, but I'll reiterate what I wrote on the RCB board. With these rules, and with this caliber of player combined with the style of coaching that RSL currently employs, and Real Salt Lake soccer may the most boring sporting event in North America.

It looks like Checketts' Operation Sandbag is on a path to success.

This is no longer possible.

That's two wins and a draw, and RSL believes it's possible. It also believes it's making progress.
"Things are starting to turn,"
Its been a year and a half now that we've heard the same line: "Things are starting to turn."

<sigh> Unfortunately it sounds like Dave is sticking with Ellinger throughout the season.

All too common an occurance. I had to miss a game this season due to other commitments and used the ticket to take a non-soccer friend who loves many other sports to the Columbus game (one of the exchange dates).

We lost one-nil. It will be tough to convince him to attend another match for free let alone for him to buy a ticket.

Which absolutly sucks! !!!!!!

I know how many of you feel about Chivas, but at least I can watch their style of soccer right now. attack! attack! attack! If I had a choice on TV between the two, I watch Chivas live and tivo RSL so I can forward through it...

..okay maybe not. But I would watch the Chivas match without fastforwarding due to the fact they actually try and create some offense.

Yeah. Most fans out there would rather see their team fall 4-2 while attacking, then earn a point in table in a scoreless draw.

The crowd got pretty into it whenever Real delivered an off-frame effort, but rather than letting it feed the energy, the team took less and less shots as the game went on. It's as if they were waiting for the perfect, unmissable opportunity when they needed to catch FCD off guard.

"You miss 100 percent of the shots you don't take," after all.
