Beck's to MLS? Odds not bad... I just read this in 90:00 Soccer
What are the odds, David…? British bookmaker William Hill have published odds on which team Galactico Beckham will be playing for come midnight on January 31st, when the next transfer window closes. Real Madrid...6/4 MLS...4/1 Arsenal...6/1 Spurs...13/2 Any Italian club...10/1 West Ham...14/1 Other Spanish...14/1

I don't agree with the "Win the MLS raises the salary cap" option. From my understanding, the "David Beckham rule" allows a superstar to be signed, and only a small part of their salary counts towards the cap. I'm sure I've got a few things confused in this, and several people are bound to correct me. I also understand that Eddie Pope falls under a similar rule, as well as Mathis in '05. Their entire salary didn't count towards our cap - just a couple hundred thousand dollars of it.

Quote:
The other pay is technically salary but is passed off as guaranteed bonus' which to me is a contradiction in terms or oxy-moron what ever you call it. A bonus is supposed to be an incentive... so how would a guaranteed bonus be an incentive? Saying a guaranteed bonus is an incentive is like saying we will use military force to acheive peace... Using military force only acheives war... but I digress... I think MLS needs to do something to improve the level of play but I honestly don't think that a "Beckham Rule" is the answer. It seems more like a quick fix. Just thinking out loud... Last edited by Deuce : 10-27-2006 at 01:00 PM.
