Chivas Use Designated Player Slot

Chivas USA is first team to use it's Designated Player Slot...

Chivas trades DPS and 3rd round draft pick to NY Red Bulls for Amado Guevara

Chivas USA didn't actually USE the DP slot, they simply traded it to RBs for Guevara.

Red Bulls now have 2 DP slots.

Although I am not blaming Deuce for this semi-inaccurate info, since it seems most US media has been reporting the same thing, even on the NAS email list.

Isn't trading it using it? They used it to acquire Guevara from NYRB. While they may not have used it to help pay for a player, they did use it to get a player.

No not really.

Yes, Chivas USA "used" the DP slot to get Guevera. But they simply traded it to the RBs. Chivas is not going to pay Guevara more than $400,000.
RB now can sign 2 DP aka 2 players who they will pay more that $400,000.
Chivas cannot get any signature, elite player now. Guevara and Razov will probably be the highlights of the 2007 Chivas USA team.

Its like saying RSL "used" one of their allocations to get Kreis back when Toronto took him. RSL didn' actually spend the allocation money, they just traded the allocation to Toronto. Now Toronto can use the allocation on someone.

Well if the reports/rumors coming out of England are true... then Malcolm Glazer may be using his DP slot to get Beckham and he may be coming in the next year or two to play for the "the team formerly known as the LA Galaxy" you may have heard of them... "Manchester United of Los Angeles at Carson"
