Those numbers for Mathis and Pope are probably about right. Adu I believe is the highest paid at $500,000 a year.

Yeah, I think i made about $8.50/hr for reffing basketball games in highschool. I would have had to work 161 hours/day to make what Adu is making at the same age (yes 161 hours/day).

Landon Donovan has replaced Freddy Adu as the highest-paid player in MLS. Donovan's deal will pay him a guaranteed $4.5 million over the next five years and includes several lucrative performance incentives. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/writers/grant_wahl/05/09/power.rankings2/index.html

Naw. The problem in NASL was that they were paying outrageous sums for over-the-hill foreign stars, and not developing our own home grown talent. MLS is working on the home grown talent, but part of the home grown issue is to KEEP our talent. They have to be able to earn enough to justify staying in the league. But it IS a fine line. Pay too much and the league is in financial trouble. It's good, as long as they don't get too carried away. I don't think they will. __________________
