"Vandalism" or "Sidewalk Chalking" is the least this guy should be worried about; we have the power to vote him out of office. As far as I see it, he should be more concerned about losing his job. When's the next election?

I still find it awfully strange that the only proof he has is his word. It's also weird that if he was as scared as he makes himself and his family out to be that he didn't contact the police, but the local newspaper. If I felt that my family was threatened, I wouldn't be calling a press conference.

My comment about "calling him on it" was mostly tongue-in-cheek. I should have probably included a smiley to make that more clear.

Got it. This whole "incident" is so bizarre in a minimalist kind of way.

I have to admit, from outside Utah it looks so . . . Utah. I mean, chalk? A big inflatable soccer ball? I fully understand laughing at this. For a second there I thought I was watching a Simpson's episode. You know, inept politician and gentleman vandal. I'm picturing Quimby and Flanders.

And although I'd love to see an investigation uncover that it was a setup, I just think we're better off making our statement, being the good guys, and devoting our energy to getting RES filled, noisy, and "the place to be" this summer. That will do much to getting the momentum back on our side with the stadium issue.

Hear, hear. That is our true calling. We are the missionaries for the TRUE football, the beautiful game.

If you knew much about Happy Valley at all, this wouldn't surprise you in the least. The only thing that surprises me is that there was no toilet paper involved. 🙂

I sure thought I knew Utah County, since I went to HS in Salt Lake. So I couldn't believe the vandals didn't leave smiley-face balloons, a plate of cookies, and a coupon for chalk cleanup from driveways-r-us.

But no go--just chalk, notes, and a big ole soccer ball.

Getting rough down there.

Well, they are soccer hooligans now. They bring things to an entirely different level. The UC has never seen their like before.

Other than the "war" statement, what went on was mostly harmless. I think what is of greater concern is would someone be motivated to something even worse. I can think of the potential for worse things. (and I hope that this is the end of it, there are better ways to get our message across than intimiation and vandalism)

I just find it embarrassing that non-soccer folks see this and then get the "silly soccer hooligans" attitude about it.

We've had some controversial issues before in this state, but have rarely seen cases where government officials are treated like this. Case in point: the "driver's license" proposal. Lots of people were upset over it, but instead of taking out frustations on private property, they had a large, but peaceful public demonstration a day or so ago.

That's a good point. Instead of writing on the sidewalk a much more effective tool is something like a letter/email writing campaign. Another point I would like to make is that (and maybe I'm wrong, as always) we have focused entirely on the chalk and not on the bill that passed. Is it true that the bill made sure that education funds weren't going to be used for a stadium? I'm a big fan of education... I think it would be helpful to do some research on what the bill was trying to do, rather than just call it anti-soccer and write with chalk where we shouldn't be writing. 😕
