Frisco Stadium Progress

Thought everyone might want to check in on where RSL will win our first MLS Cup later this year. 🙂 (Dream big!)

If you haven't checked out the construction photos, you can find some here:

I was in Dallas last October so I went by the site. It was just a hole in the ground back then, but the design concept was clear enough. It will be unlike the other SSS already built, although the Prairie Gateway in Colorado is much like Frisco.

The town of Frisco is one of those former farm towns that has been overtaken by Dallas' suburban sprawl. Think Riverton or Draper. But it's been meticulously planned, and the FCD stadium is the central focus of the new city center they're building. As much as I like the HDC, it's part of a multi-sport complex on a college campus in a so-so suburb of LA. There are a lot of so-so suburbs of LA.

Frisco Stadium is built for soccer--professional and youth soccer, which is very big in North Texas. They will play HS football there, but soccer is king in Frisco. The development will set the standard for these pro/youth complexes.

If the downtown SLC stadium doesn't work out, RSL would do well to look at what Lamar Hunt and the City of Frisco have put together.

And because of that, the school district is kicking in $15 million...

I could only wish.

Frisco Stadium starting to emerge from the prairie:

This is the future, folks. We'll get one too.

That is going to be a great day when we get our own stadium! I can't wait for the first game in our new stadium. We should start thinking about what section we want to take over as our own. Maybe we can get one that will be in the shade in the late afternoon so we don't fry ourselves.

Lookin' good. I'm happy for Dallas, especially considering how grossed out I was every time I've had to watch their home games in the last 2 years on that HS football field.

Dallas fans must be absolutely stoked.

Not only is the stadium looking good, but I saw a picture of their new kits in the Eurosport catalog yesterday and those look pretty sweet as well.

I thought that their kits were rather nice looking too.

Concur. I was impressed that they went for hoops (those horizontal stripes). We've needed more variety in MLS uniforms, and Dallas has done their part. They'll be instantly recognizable--as will RSL.

Chicago/Bridgeview is not as far along as Frisco, but construction has begun:

Supposed to open in 2006 . . .

Their uniforms are pretty sweet, indeed. Very unique to the league without being cheesy at all.
