Shaw seems to placing a lot of importance on Earl Holding... he's written a few things before indicating that he believes Holding is the linchpin to the whole stadium deal. Thoughts? Anyone? Bueller?

I know -- I'm starting to think it's the only hope. I really don't want to have to take up the Knitting For Stadia campaign. 🙁

I fully understand the frustration, since things seemed to be moving very quickly and positively just a couple of months ago. I'm not an expert on the situation and I have no inside information, but over the years I have followed the construction of all kinds of stadiums for different sports around the country and if there is one common experience with each, it would be this--it's never easy. I'll spare you the litany, but just in MLS each SSS built or under construction is the result of stops and starts, battles among interest groups, and political maneuvering over months or years. The process in Salt Lake will be different only in the particulars of the local political and business scene. It's going to take time, and there will be further progress--and setbacks--along the way. I don't doubt that Mr. Holding is a key player, at least downtown. But we can get a great stadium without going downtown. No, I'll state the obvious and say that the key player is Dave Checketts. At the end of the day, any deal will be made due to his influence and vision. So I'm very confident RSL will get a stadium, and I expect it will be first class. But there's going to be much more frustration along the way before we get there.

Some good points, Rover.
It just occurred to me that there has to be a reason why Dave Checketts was so confident that RSL would only play at RES for two (three, worst case scenario). I'm just hoping he wasn't hanging his hat on the RDA thing, you know?

Although I was very upset initially that the stadium deal seemed to be dead. I think Dave Checketts is a business man before he is a soccer fan, so in saying that I believe he has several plans in place...
The proverbial plan A, B, & C It looks like we are on to Plan B... At least I hope we are only on Plan B. 😉 Quote:
