Ramirez Says He Wants to Return to Chivas USA

This is weird. Ramirez left Chivas. Now he wants to go back. The article I originally read said that he had some personal issues. This article states that is was all about the nanny. Hmmm.

Ramirez Says He Wants to Return to Chivas USA
From Times Staff and Wire Reports

March 13, 2005

Ramon Ramirez, the Mexican soccer icon who left Chivas USA last week amid reports he was unhappy that his children's nanny could not get a visa in a timely fashion, wants to return to the MLS expansion team.

Ramirez called Coach Thomas Rongen and President and co-owner Antonio Cue from Mexico to express remorse at leaving. A meeting with Cue to decide Ramirez's fate is scheduled for Monday, Cue said Saturday.

"My decision of today is that he is still off the team, but he is a proven professional," Cue said. "Everybody can make a mistake and have personal problems and tough times that affect their attitude.

"That's why I want to see him in person. If he really believes he made a mistake, I may take a chance and I'll consider [reinstating] him. If I don't believe he's truly [remorseful], I won't accept him back."

Chivas USA, which has been outscored 12-0 in its last three exhibitions, played at the Fresno Fuego Saturday night.

Just a little suspicious of this. The drama seems a little contrived, don't you think?

Judging from Cue's comments, it may be legit. In either case, it sure helps the buildup to MLS' "First Kick." Prodigal son returns to the fold to save his team from disaster, or something like that. We'll see what happens.

One thing was really off to me about this from the beginning. When he left CUSA, the release said he was no longer under contract with CDG either. I wonder if the big club had left him no way out when he wasn't pleased with the development of CUSA. I mean, the guy is a great player--one of the CONCACAF opponents I always admired for his tough (but clean) play. He's got to have too much pride to put up with a shoddy product. Conjecture, I know.

This guy seems a liitle iron fisted. I prefer the guy who will gather all the information and then put the vote to the team to see if they will accept him back.

Nah! He was having problems with the nanny's visa, it said. I bet he made some kind ultimatum to the team, and they said, "Okay, there's the door". Now he realizes his tactical error and wants to "come home". Poor boy!πŸ™

Or maybe he had a nanny with "benefits" and the benefits just ran out. πŸ™‚

I was not discounting that possibility. πŸ˜‰

He's Back!

Get your Nanny Nanny Boo Boo signs ready:

(story leads on MLSnet.com)

Not much to say, but I love this:

"RamΓrez's status among the team and coaching staff has not diminished."

Right!

I'll bet he came back when he heard about the scrimmage today. He just had to play against RSL.

I still think he gave them some kind of ultimatim and expected them to cave. Then he had to repent, quickly when he didn't see any signs of the expected cave-in. :D
