Magee might be back for Metros, but Djorkaeff won't. I don't think Metros have enough guns to take RSL. Especially with a healthy Pope ready for them.
With the the Guatemala game on Wednesday, if Mathis plays he might not play on Saturday....take that back, Clint WILL play on Saturday!!! 🙂
Come he can't miss a chance to play in RSL's first match and against his old team (of course he can that against the Galaxy too).

Bleacher's said they were going to purchase the Direct Kick package. If the game is on KSL though then we don't need it now do we? I don't know what was wrong with their sat. feed, I've watched FSC at their establishment before without any trouble! I'll check back with them and make sure they will have the game.

So would UC people want to all get together and watch it there then?

That would be great if we can enter with 6 points for the home opener. Even 4 points would be fantastic on the road. I really do think that at least 4 is very doable.

And it seems as if the UC people have found a place to watch the game, is there anywhere in Salt Lake that people are meeting to watch it?

Yes!!!!

(I really didn't want to sound quite THAT excited, but the forum gave me an error saying that "The message you have entered is too short. Please lengthen your message to at least 7 characters." I was actually going to go with just "Yes". Hopefully this clears up any potential misunderstanding.)

MetroStars sign eight players, including Guevara

SECAUCUS, NJ (March 22, 2005) MLS - The MetroStars announced yesterday that they have signed 2004 Major League Soccer MVP Amado Guevara to a new contract. Per Major League Soccer policy terms of the deal are not disclosed.

“We are delighted to be able to reward Amado for his incredible achievements with the club over the past two years,” said MetroStars President and General Manager Nick Sakiewicz. “The best part about Amado is his desire to win. Though he has won a lot of individual awards over the past two years, we know that he is hungry for a championship and he is the type of player that can take this team to its first MLS Cup.”

Signed in April of 2003, Guevara has been named the MetroStars MVP in both of his seasons with the club. During his first campaign with the team Guevara played in 25 games, and tallied three goals and 10 assists. His 10 assists ranked him third in the league behind Kansas City’s Preki (17) and MetroStars teammate Mark Lisi (11). Four of his assists for the “Red and Black” were game-winners putting him at the top of that category. All of his accomplishments that season were recognized when he was voted the 2003 MetroStars MVP.

In 2004, Guevara’s play rose to a level that made him the 2004 MLS MVP, the 2004 MetroStars MVP, the 2004 MLS All-Star Game MVP, a member of the 2004 MLS Best XI, the 2004 MLS Scoring Champion (tied with New England’s Pat Noonan) and Fox Sports Espanol’s MLS Player of the Year. He scored a team high (tied with John Wolyniec) 10 goals and registered a team high 10 assists.

The MetroStars also announced that they have signed defender Chris Leitch and forward John Wolyniec to new contracts.

“Chris (Leitch) and John (Wolyniec) have proven over the past two years that they are solid contributors to our club,” said MetroStars President and General Manager Nick Sakiewicz. “These two guys have worked hard for us over the past few years, and it is exciting that we get to reward them with new deals.”

Leitch, 25, joined the MetroStars prior to the 2003 season and has had a big impact on the club over the past two seasons. Despite missing nine games due to a right ankle injury in his first year with the club, Leitch played in 15 games, starting in 10, for a total of 993 minutes of play during 2003. In 2004, Leitch truly emerged as he registered 2610 minutes on the season and garnered two assists. His accomplishments did not go unnoticed, and he was named the MetroStars 2004 Iron Man.

At the end of the 2004 season Leitch suffered from a sports hernia, and was forced to undergo surgery in February of 2005. Since then he has fully recovered and is doing well in the team’s spring training sessions.

After bouncing between the A-League and MLS during the first four years of his professional career, Wolyniec found a home with the MetroStars in 2003. During his first year back with the MetroStars (he was originally drafted by the “Red and Black” with the seventh overall pick in the 1999 MLS SuperDraft) he appeared in 25 games, and tallied a total of 12 points coming from five goals and two assists. His success continued in 2004 when he finished the season with 10 goals and three assists. His mark of 10 goals equaled Amado Guevara’s total, and the pair shared the MetroStars 2004 goal scoring title.

Rounding out the signings, the MetroStars also inked deals with forward Ramon Bailey, defender Chris Corcoran, defender Jason Hernandez, forward Abdoulaye “Abbe” Ibrahim and defender Carlos Mendes.

Bailey, who attended Mercer Community College in New Jersey, has been signed by the “Red and Black” to a developmental contract. The 21-year-old former Jamaican U-17 player, is described as a player who combines good skill with creativity in the attack. While at Mercer CC, Bailey was named to the NJCAA All-American First Team for the 2002 season. He holds a Green Card and a Jamaican Passport.

Corcoran was selected by the MetroStars with the 25th overall pick in the 2005 MLS SuperDraft out of Saint John’s University. Despite missing much of his senior year due to foot injuries, Corcoran had a storied career with the Red Storm. As a junior in 2003, he was named to the All-Big East First Team. During that campaign he appeared in 24 games, starting 21. He scored two goals, and tallied eight assists during that year. He played his club soccer with the Cape Cod Crusaders of the PDL. He has been signed by the Metros to a developmental contract.

Hernandez, a 21-year-old defender from Seton Hall University, was selected by the “Red and Black” with the sixth overall pick in the 2005 MLS Supplemental Draft and now signed to a developmental contract. Hernandez, an Englewood, NJ native and Paramus Catholic H.S. graduate, garnered All-Big East Second Team honors in 2004 and was also named to the adidas/NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Region All-America Third Team. A four-year starter and two-year captain, Hernandez compiled a 42-28-12 record and helped the Pirates qualify for the NCAA tournament in each of his four seasons.

Ibrahim, 18-years-old of Lome, Togo, has been signed by the club pending visa approval. He has spent his entire soccer career in the FC Espoire Accademy in Lome, Togo. In early 2004 he trained with Manchester United, and since he has been invited to train with many French and German clubs.

Mendes, 24, is the only current professional in the group of five that has been signed today by the MetroStars. An Old Dominion University graduate, Mendes has spent the past two years playing for the A-League’s Rochester Raging Rhinos. Before that, he spent a year with the Long Island Rough Riders. He is a native of Mineola, N.Y.

Referees around the league just let out a collective shudder after the signing of Guevara. I'm sure they're looking forward to many future moments with him.

Personally I thought Guevara shouldn't have won the MVP. My vote was for Cannon as he had a much more consistent year and was IMO more valuable to his team than was Guevara.

Guevara's a head case and dissappeared during the second half of last season. He scored his final goal on the season on Aug. 8th and wasn't heard from since.
