Brimstone Effect No one ever said a cup rivalry is between only 2 teams so i say they will bring SA into the cup.
Comments, thoughts??? Last edited by Deuce : 04-15-2005 at 09:46 AM.

The Brimstone Cup is based on actual game history between the the Fire and FCD, not on geography or anything in particular between the cities. It all started in a playoff series between the two teams (anybody remember Kovalenko breaking Pollard's leg?).
San Antonio has nothing to do with that, so I don't see why they should be included. The BC was MLS' first organic (best word I could come up with) rivalry--it wasn't a marketing gimmick like the "Atlantic Cup." It was a fans thing from the beginning, like the RMC. FCD may start its own trophy rivalry with San Antonio--I hope they do. Of course, Dallas and San Antonio aren't the city rivals that Dallas and Houston are, so it may take a leg breaking playoff series to get a rivalry going.

Plus, isn't the name based around the teams names? (former and current) It would be silly to just add a team based on geography.

If the new San Antonio team is named En Fuego then they could be added to the Brimstone cup. Otherwise they will probably create a new cup for FC Dallas and the San Antonio As Yet to be Determines...

That is the situation. There is simply no history, and no reason, to add them to the rivalry. A separate Texas rivalry, "the Bull Cra.....uh, Cup", but no sense at all in adding them arbitrarily to the Brimstone Cup rivalry, where they would definitely be "odd man out". __________________

The Brimstone is dying, just ask Section 8 or Inferno fans.

If it's dying it's their own fault. It was started by supporters, and will have to be sustained by supporters. Bad on them if they mess this one up.

I think Prime means the intensity of the play on the field. You don't see the leg breaking tackles any more like you did in the early years of the cup.
Of course, I could be wrong...mind reading is something I have not mastered.

We could do without the leg breaking, anyway. A rivalry is one thing, permanent damage is another. Even in the strongest rivalry, it is still just a game. It's supposed to be fun, not deadly. __________________

I can't imagine Dallas fighting a rivalry on two fronts. An intra-texas rivalry seems much more natural.
