Why isn't the DesNews covering RSL in Dallas? We need to send a message to the DesNews higher ups that RSL is the big leagues.
They have made the decision no to send a reporter to Dallas to cover RSL and will not be sending one to many other away games. The higher ups are of the opinion that RSL isn't "Major League." I suggest that we send e-mail to all of the following to let them know that their decision is an ignorant one... Ray Boren — assistant managing editor -- rayb [at] desnews.com Rick Hall — managing editor -- rhall [at] desnews.com John Hughes — editor, chief operating officer -- hughes [at] desnews.com Wendy Ogata — assistant managing editor -- ogata [at] desnews.com Glen Snarr — chairman, board of directors -- gsnarr [at] desnews.com Jim Wall — publisher -- jmwall [at] desnews.com David Schneider — sports editor -- daves [at] desnews.com Aaron Shill — assistant sports editor -- ashill [at] desnews.com Just an idea, but I feel it is a very good one... In the mean time I will switch my life time of allegance to the Trib, until they get the message. Last edited by dysko : 04-20-2005 at 06:11 AM.

That's very odd. What else are they going to cover? The Jazz fishing schedule?

Thanks Dysko. I've been meaning to send a letter to the Des for a while now. They have the best soccer writer in the area (sorry dysko) and they don't utilize that to get more readers? Not logical.

Here is my response from Deseret News (with my initial email at the end):
Dear Ethan: Thank you for your interest in the Deseret Morning News' coverage of Real Salt Lake the past several months. We plan to cover all Real Salt Lake games -- home and away. Some road games will be covered by writers based in those cities; some road games will be covered by a Deseret Morning News sports writer who travels to the game. Exactly where that divides will be decided game-by-game as the season progresses. If RSL is doing playoff-caliber soccer and drawing 20,000 fans, we'll dedicate more resources to covering the team than if RSL is not a playoff contender and drawing 5,000 fans. We make similar decisions with every team. Our Jazz coverage this past season has been less than in previous years -- they're not contenders and they're drawing fewer fans. On the other hand, our U. football coverage was dramatically increased last year -- the team was drawing bigger crowds and winning all the time. I which I knew who the liar is who is saying that we will not cover any more RSL road games. As with a lot of lies, it is spreading quickly --based on the e-mail I'm receiving. Can you tell me, so I set this straight at the source, instead of dealing with an e-mail campaign, of which some people are not very even-temepered? Frankly, the e-mail I'm receiving is feeding a stereotype that a lot of people have about soccer fans, and I'm sure we all would like to dispell that. Some weeks will be more and some weeks will be less, but I believe that over the course of the entire year you will see as much, if not more, RSL coverage in the Deseret Morning News as in any other major news media. (Unless, of course, we get so turned off by people spreadling lies that we decide it's not worth it anymore. lol) Sincerely, David Schneider Sports editor, Deseret Morning News >I am a big fan of the Major League Soccer team Real Salt Lake. Until this week, I was very pleased with Deseret News's coverage of the team and especially James Edward's articles. >However I recently been informed that DN will no longer send their reporters to cover away games of RSL. >Please don't do this! > >Many loyal RSL fans are relying on you to give them information on their team, including the great in-depth articles that only reporters on the sideline can gather. > >Please do not allow RSL fans to find other sources of newspaper information by not covering future away games. > >Thank you, >Ethan Gomberg

I particularly like how he says that these rumors are lies, how he wants to hunt down the liar and how soccer fans are playing up to their stereotype. Oh and how he says they will stop covering RSL if the annoying emails don't stop (laugh, laugh...very funny-not). Thats not funny.
I am not sure, but I don't think tact is this man's strong point.

The stereotype of soccer fans in Utah? What is that exactly...that they strike fear in the hearts of their enemies through the malicious use of chalk? I mean, it is not exactly like the Blades Business Crew has his number or anything!
