hopefully, and there is of course no guarantee on this, the opening of the new stadium will atleast peak the interest of the folks in Dallas enough to get them over the 10,000 mark. If their team continues to destroy everyone, they'll most likely draw some more fans too. If the Revs keep winning they might do the same.

Unfortunately for the avid San Jose fans, I think the majority of the fans are resolved to the fact that they will be in San Antonio next year (or Houston if the Wiz go to San Antone). One of only two franchises with more than one Cup and they soon will no longer exist.

Do attendance numbers scare anyone else? Everything is going great for the league except that attendance is just not climbing steadily like it should. What good will all these SSSs be without anyone in them to scream like a loyalist? What good will it do us if Salt Lake is the highest attended team in a league that decides to close up shop? Maybe it's the fact that the Artist formerly known as the Burn took our team apart today, but I seem to be a little depressed about the future. I better quit now before I say something that really sucks.

After all that pessimism, I'd like to say that San Jose has always been much stronger in attendance in the second half of the year. I was at one of their highest attended games ever, and it came in the playoffs the week after they embarrassed the Galaxy with their five goal comeback. They had more there that night than we had in Rice-Eccles last week. I'm not sure why it works that way each year, but they always pick it up later on. However, I don't think that attendance is really what will keep them there or not. It will rely 100% on whether they can get out of spartan and into their own stadium within a few years.

If you ask me my opinion, which I know no one did, I think the team that will move to San Antonio next year will be Chivas USA. I think Vergara will decide that he is not getting the return on his investment that he expected, and will say Adios. Of course any one of us could have guessed how it would go for him. Why would he expect that getting 11 guys in chivas uniforms on a field and dropping a ball for them would bring out mexicans in droves. They know their futbol, and they love their futbol. When our teams start showing their teams up in games like the Champions Cup, then maybe they'll rethink their ideas about soccer, but going to Mexico City and getting your backside handed to you in a paper bag (5-0) is not going to convince anyone. You never know though, a few years ago the Fire lost Morelia 7-0, so we're closing some ground huh? Too bad FCD wasn't in Mexico City to face Pumas.

Everyone try to bring a friend or nine to this week's game. If we can keep getting big crowds out to matches, we'll help the whole league, we'll push our squad to victory, and we'll attract good players who want to play in front of more than 1,000 fans.

It brings me some joy that Dallas has played 2 games at "home" and has yet to equal RSL's one home game attendance.

Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't LA get alot of people still at the Rose Bowl while the HDC was being built?

Has the soccer culture in St. Louis completely disappeared? Have they ever been mentioned as a possibility for MLS? I know this is somewhat off-topic, but you would think they could draw more fans there than some of these other "major league" cities.

Well since 15-20k is higher than 9-11k, then Dallas really sucks compared to LA, when comparing attendance.

Thanks for clearing that up. 🙂

They did have one, but thanks to Dallas, they still made the playoffs. I could never forget how much moaning there was on BS the week between the Quakes 2-0 loss in LA and the 5-2 miracle the week after. Every one was talking about how embarrassing it was that a team with a losing record was going to be one win away from MLS Cup and could possibly even win the league title. The single table folks were never louder.

We'll just assume that you are upset this weekend on RSL's results and leave it at that.
