Speaking of which, the latest agreement with the players raises the min. salary from $28K to $36K by 2009.

In response to lowering ticket prices:

I wouldn't suggest that they slash them to high-school football game levels or anything, in fact I wouldn't suggest doing anything that would result in an overall decrease in net income. I just think that if prices were a couple bucks lower, and if there are some family-friendly promotions run, they could make at least the same amount of money and pack in a few more fans, increasing their long-term fan base while doing so.

For example, my little brother has $50 saved up to go to games this year. At $14/ticket, that's 3 games. At $10 or $11, that's 4 or 5 games that he'll go see. If he were to be faced with $25 or $30 ticket prices, he might not go at all.

There's a balance in there somewhere, I'm sure. And RSL marketers are smarter than me, so I'm sure that they know what they're doing. When the initial ticket prices came out, I just found it a bit odd that you can get cheaper tickets in San Jose than you can in Salt Lake.

Can someone post a comparison chart of ticket prices for the different MLS teams? (particularly the lowest-priced tickets)

I've sorted it. Notice where Real falls:

Chivas $19
Crew $18
MetroStars $18
United $16
Revolution $16
Fire $15
Galaxy $15
Wizards $14
Real $14
Earthquakes $13
Rapids $10
Dallas $10

Only 3 other teams are cheaper than Real.

But notice that 2 of those 3 are under threat of sale and or moving to a different city. The third (cRapids) have trouble averaging more than 10k per game. Next question is not directed at you Arelius(II) but to the world at large! Where is it that cheaper tix mean full stadiums?

So $14 isn't terrible. But in response to Utahns being "cheap", try running those numbers as a ratio to each region's average Salary/Cost of Living. I'd be surprised if we didn't come out #1. Not sure that this should really matter all that much, though...

Utah Jazz, 2004-2005. Games that were on "special discount" drew many more fans. I'll grab some numbers for you in a sec

I don't doubt that ticket specials draw large crowds. My response was directed to a blanket statement to drop ticket prices... With no mention of a special ticket deal for a particular match or string of matches.

However the context of my question was relative to the other 11 teams in MLS not to NBA.

also a correction to my earlier statement; Of the 4 teams that are the same or cheaper 2 teams are facing threat of sale and or a move, the other two have problems filling seats even with cheaper ticket prices. although FC Dallas ticket prices will undoubtably go up when they move to Frisco.

Good question. I haven't paid enough attention to know this, but have the other MLS teams dropped ticket prices?
