Stupid Mayan. I can't even eat there anymore because they don't serve anything vegetarian and won't make substitutions. Anyway, back to topic :p

I particularly liked this part of the article.

And Anderson touts downtown's amenities.
"After the games, they have a wide variety of options in terms of restaurants, clubs, hotels, live music, other entertainment. What are they going to do if they go to a game at 90th South?"
Someone that has picked up the Downtown Torch and is running with it! I fondly remember the countless debates over downtown/Murray this past winter! wow those were fun.

I am not coming out of stadium debate retiremrent just yet!
It is nice to see that the debate will be in good hands...

Carry on Hiba! :D

Call me a clueless UC'er (actually, no, don't), but what do you all do after the games, and is that really a factor in whether you go or not? Maybe I'm a little nutty, cause I hop in my car and race home in hopes of catching highlights on TV 🙂 Does everyone really go out to restaurants, then hit the club or catch a concert (at 11:00 at night?), then head over to a hotel to stay for the night?

I agree with that statement for the most part, but I'm sure that RSL FO has long-term success on their minds and aren't going to do anything stupid that would endanger that. I'm not sure if you're saying that a stadium in SLC would be better for the team and the fans, but I haven't really seen anything yet that would convince me that this would be the case. Wouldn't a less costly stadium be better for the team and the fans?

I'm not pro-Sandy or anti-SLC by any means, but I just haven't seen or heard any convincing arguments as to why SLC should be the clear-cut winner. Someone want to help me out here?

It's not a factor in whether I go or not, but what I do after the games would largely depend on a) who's going with me and b) what there is to do afterward.

My dad's not a big late-night person, so we've just headed home on the TRAX after the last two home games. However, my mom and I went out to eat after every gymnastics meet this year -- we tried some new places like Cloud 9 and Trio that we wouldn't have otherwise had a chance to get to.

Just point me in the direction and I'll be there. I could eat at the Training table down town or in Sandy.

(personally i like Sandy, because I live in Herriman and that's quite a drive every match, but it's a drive i'll make easily).

I couldn't resist, since this same argument is going on over at BS.

We live in a world with the LA Angels of Anaheim (?). Anything is possible. Teams have carried a city identity into the greater metro area for years. I understand the argument, but it isn't enough to convince those who have to actually pay for it that they have no options outside SLC limits.

Most of us want a downtown stadium (although as Deuce mentions, we've been over this ground before). If it ends up in Sandy, I'll still go. Wherever it goes, all I want is the best stadium in MLS. Best club, best stadium.

I hope that it is downtown, but I will go to the stadium where ever it is built. I can only imagine that it is a great thing to actually have cities fighting over the stadium. In the end, it will help us get the best stadium possible and as soon as possible. We should be grateful that there are several people that see the stadium as a good enough thing to fight over.

Still not out of retirement yet! :D
But I drive the round trip from Salt Lake to Payson twice every game day. My son lives in Payson. I live in West Jordan, the stadium is at the U.
it is 240 miles every game day! I am not complaining of course... I would still do it if it were 300 or more...
I have gone as far as 6,000 miles for one game.

It’s not a factor over whether or not I go, but you never know with others. I don’t think he’s just talking about after the game, but before the game I know many people who like to go out to dinner. And with Sandy there doesn't seem to be a lot of choice with that.

Yay, everyone can crowd into the Mayan before the game! A little diving show and then we can go to the soccer stadium and watch some more diving 😉

I think it’s mostly frustrating for me because when we first heard that we were even getting a team the word was that we were getting a stadium downtown. And at this rate it seems we’ll never get it built.

I just think that people are giving up and letting politics take over, there have got to be many other options out there to keep it in Salt Lake.

I've heard lots of people arguing that if it is one place that people from another place won't go because it is farther away. The problem I see with this argument is that no matter where you put it, it is going to be farther away from some and closer to others. You simply can't get around that. What we should really be concerned about is making sure that where ever the stadium is that it is a first-class stadium, which I'm sure Dave will make sure of. As far as I'm concerned, that is my primary concern. If he builds that, people will come no matter where it is.
