Is this a good section of town?

I was looking at houses in SLC, on Realtor.com

I saw a nice home that was affordable in the Thomas Edison Elementary school area, near Redwood and North Temple.

Does anyone know if thats a good area of town?

You'll have to look at the specific neighborhood, but that area is around what is called "Rose Park." Don't let the name deceive you... it doesn't have the best reputation. But it could be changing. Check it out.

Good luck 🙂

My husband used to work very close to Redwood/North Temple. It's very close to the airport, unless I'm turned around. I would say that's not a great neighborhood. But I haven't lived up there, so I can't be sure. I would much sooner go south of the valley than in that area... If I'm wrong, somebody please correct me.

The best way to find out what kind of neighborhood it is to go there late evening... say 9-10 pm and see what type of people are visible... if any.

then to really get the skinny on it all is to ask a police officer that patrols the area.
A tell-tale sign is how quick you can find a police officer so keep that in mind.

The quicker you find one the better... unless you find them in seconds but when you find them they have three or four shady characters lined up against a wall doing police checks on them...😲

If that is the case... then I think it would be safe to say that you don't really want to live there.

Seriously tho... the police men (& women) that patrol the area will give you invaluable insight into the area.

Failing that... stop by the local fire station and ask the same type of questions you would have asked a police officer.

Good Luck

the better areas still near downtown salt lake are East of 700 E and N of 2100 S

the area known as sugarhouse, the university of utah area and the east end of the avanues are the better areas of downtown. let me know of any other areas and i'll tell you all about em. ive lived in 3 counties and 10 different cities in the major poulated areas in salt lake, from seedier to the more 'respectable' areas so i know my way around and what kind of problems you will have where.

I'll concur with this... The area hiddnfox mentioned is often known as "The Avenues." This is where my sister lives and she loves the neighborhood. Personally, you couldn't drag me there because in Utah County I can pay the same amount and get 1/3 more house that's 50 years newer... But you know I'm biased.

I used to live 2 miles from there. I wish I still did.

If you have any free time on Sundays, you can would be close to Liga Latinoamericana games in the local parks.

If this kind of thing bugs you, you would hear train noise & freeway noise.

You would also be close to the Utah State Fair. Go ahead & laugh, but I like the Utah State Fair. You're also close to Wingpointe Golf Course & the Jordan River Trail.

West High has the International Baccalaureate program.

You would also be close to downtown.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate all the input and offers of help. As many of you may know, I don't live in Utah but my small family is planning on relocating soon (pray for us to do so). So all help is greatly appreciated. For now though when I look at housing in UT I have to do it remotely, by website.

I'll post more here when I find some more homes. If you guys know of any houses or good situations, please feel free to post or email me about it.

Thanks!

You've been looking for a while. I hope you don't choose West Valley, check with Dadof8, and also, apparently don't choose the UC unless you:

1. Enjoy riding with Hitler <-- search forums under 'hitler' you can't miss it.
2. Enjoy being ribbed by OldSka and ......... <everybody? :p
3. Want to get a new unique accent that consists of: carn (corn), mount'ns (mountains), melk (milk), faark (fork, as in Spanish/American 'faark'), etc. etc.
4. Enjoy the fabuloso UC watch parties.
5. Are happy to be in a diffurnt (different) valley than Rocky "the bucket chunder according to UC'ers and DC'ers (davis county'ers)" Anderson.

Toungue in cheek, I know, but there's more truth to it than fiction.
except the hitler part... no truth to that except when I try to do a live action remake of Rat Race.

ps
Montgjules and Bordy7... please no negative rep... please!
