It could be tough to come up with a name until we know where it will be.

One name that came into my head a while back was "Royal Grounds Park."

I hate "sponsorship stadium" with the passion of a thousand spitting camels. I want Real Center or something like that. Having a road name would be kool too, and if people think it's eurosnobbish they can kiss it, because we have a soccer specific stadium, and they don't.

I'm afraid the Eurosnob bit is inevitable. After all, we call our selves "The Loyalists" and our club is named after a Euro team.

I like the idea of calling it "The Place". I believe it was our state's founder that said "this is the place".

Let's try to keep things non-denominational. I'm all about LDS people, after all, I am one. However I wasn't always, and the constant references to mormons and mormonism is lost on non-LDS people. It's also frustrating, and unbeleivably annoying. I don't mean on these forums, but in Utah in general. The state is something like 55% LDS, which means 45% of people won't care much for "This is The Place" comments about their soccer stadium. When I saw some of the names people wanted for the team like, Utah pioneers, Utah Saints, Utah Gulls, it annoyed the crap out of me. Not trying to bash your comment, just try to remain neutral. 🙂

Even on places like BS names like Pioneers, Saints and Gulls had high marks. Much higher then "neutral" names like Real. I am not positive, but I don't think BS has too many LDS ppl on it. 🙂
BTW I am a LDS convert too Neil, so I see where your coming from, but we can't disregard the fact that the majority of Utahns are Mormon, they settled the place and most outsiders look at the state as the Nation of Mormons.

Good comment, but actually I think it goes even deeper than that. In the Salt Lake area, and in the State of Utah, generally, the non-mormons tend to feel like a minority, and act like a minority. Which means that they aren't just not interested in LDS things; they are actively opposed to them. They don't just not believe in the Word of Wisdom; they feel obligated to drink coffee and smoke cigarettes, and swear. :p

So I agree that it's best to leave any religious references out of it.

Oh, that's not all we drink... 😉

I've never felt obligated to smoke, freebase Oxycontin, or do anything super-crazy, though.

Personally, I just get tired of having to have to "educate" people about non-Mormons existing in Utah constantly. Just as I would assume LDS people get tired of having to explain that they're not polygamists with 17 wives.

My opinion is that sports teams in Utah really don't need to do anything to propagate any of the stereotypes about the area, but whatever...
