I know that we put passes together, that was i meant if we pass the ball we should be fine. We wouldn't need a tall guy to bring the ball down when are fullbacks are just kicking it up the field. I'm just saying i dont think Washington has anything left in him.

i definately think that watson should be starting up front. i am so tired of mathis, williams, and washington not showing any effort. watson works his tail off, and even if he cant put forth that effort for the full 90 it will still be better than the 10 min of running that mathis and williams put in each game. and what is wrong with subbing him out when he does get tired. sooner or later he would get to the point that he could stay in the full 90.
the thing that i love most about watson, besides the effort, is the fact that when he is in he is getting the ball down the wings. i dont know why this is such a novel idea for our team, but when we do get the ball down the wings we look so much more dangerous. let me say, i am a mathis fan. i think his style of play is so interesting because almost every game he plays in you can watch him he will be playing absolutely terrible, but in the past he would pull something amazing out of nowhere. one example of this is the world cup 2002 game against s. korea. if you watch that he was playing crappy and then he pulled that sweet goal off. i think he has gotten a few very good assists this season but he is not earning his keep and i think watson should be in for him or washington. washington is playing like a grandpa. he doesnt run, cant dribble, and somehow loses every header. bench him.

And as far as him losing every header, I seem to recall him out-jumping Hartman to get a shot on goal in the last game that was barely saved off of the line. Anyone that can out-jump a goalie with the goalie's extra two feet in reach is pretty good in the air in my opinion. __________________

I treasure my tapes from that tournament, and I have the U.S. highlight video as well. Both of those, of course, have the goal. Don't know if it's anywhere on the internet, though. As was pointed out, it was typical Mathis, popping up from nowhere to perfectly trap the ball and send an unstoppble shot past the 'keeper.

I was getting a little frustrated with Washington taking consistently taking multiple defenders on and promptly losing the ball. But, really, what other choice did he have? He had to either do something spectacularly creative to get past his defenders, or pass the ball backwards. He kept getting feeds to his feet from the middle of the field while he already had defenders on him. He's not Landon Donovan. He's not going to be able to create plays in those situations. Our ball movement up front is terrible.
We need to work the wings and not always run straight up the middle of the field and then wonder why we get stuffed.
