MOTM June 18, 2005 – San Jose
June 18th found Real Salt Lake battling a losing streak and an apparent lack of energy in San Jose. While fans loved seeing “Super Sub” Jamie Watson energize the team, it was Brian Kamler who wowed the Loyalists and won their Man of the Match honors. Kamler displayed consistent effort while much of the team seemed to languish in a lack of motivation. Loyalist Rich Myrick said, “On another dismal night for RSL, he gave us 90 minutes of effort and even drew a card on Alejandro Moreno.” Loyalists have also been impressed by Kamler’s willingness to play where he’s needed, including a stint as goalkeeper. Several fans call Kamler “the nicest guy in MLS” for his good attitude on and off the field. Kamler and his wife have started a charity called “Kam’s Kauses” that has become a notable presence at home games. Jim Umber commented on another fan favorite, Jamie Watson, saying, “Honorable mention to Jamie. He epitomizes what we’re missing on our team: the attack.” Several Loyalists also voted for Jason Kreis for contributing to the game under unusual circumstances: “I was initially going to vote Brian Kamler for his great saves and general heads up play on Saturday night,” said Eric Salsbery. “It has come to my attention at practice this morning that Jason Kreis was playing on Saturday night while he was extremely ill. Yet he still was able to play 90 minutes of soccer, and having a shot on goal to boot. Jason Kreis gets my vote with a strong showing for Brian Kamler.” Also nominated for this match was Clint Mathis. Brian Seppa commented, “My man of the match goes to Cleetus Mathis. He was all over the place for this game.” Congratulations to Brian Kamler and all those who were nominated for this match! | |||||
