OK, let me get this straight, Czar Jake. You are advocating absolute mad support for Real SL? Aren't you the same one who predicted Real would barely make it into the 2005 playoffs? Its hard to be convinced of YOUR passion and conviction. I suggest that you lead by example and show a little more belief (and "mad support") in our team.

Point taken. In my defense I was trying to make my predictions with my head rather than my heart. However, I've been to Loyalists meetings, I was at the MLS Cup party, the expansion draft, and I've posted on realsaltlake.org more than anyone else. I've drawn pictures of scarves and flags and I'm not an artist. I have already even made 2 flags and kick off is still 4 months away.

I can predict the Jazz will be crappy but still be their loudest supporter, can't I? Then why not with RSL? I do understand what you are saying though.

Oh yeah, and I was at the name announcement, and signed up Loyalists the whole time. I donated for the Jason Kreis gift basket. I handed out flyers that I made myself around Provo advertising the name announcement. I bought a hat and shirt the first day they were available. My Jeep has 2 RSL clings in the back window. I signed the non-profit organization papers for the Loyalists. I paid my dues to realsaltlake.org even though I already had an avatar. Need I continue? Still don't think I'm loyal?

I applaud your attendance and service at all these events. It is admirable. However, I don't think conviction and passion is necessarily measured in attendance. I, for one, have been limited in my attendance to Utah Valley events because of a demanding position at work (not to mention finishing a graduate program and preparing for law school). I wish with all my heart I could have been with Kreisie when he was announced, at the expansion draft, etc. but it hasn't been possible. If loyalty were measured in attendance, I would be found wanting.

I certainly don't question your loyalty. But, it is disconcerting that on a site that proports to support our team, that we can't be more optimistic about our team and its potential. I feel a profound sense of gratitude that we have an MLS team in our own backyard and I hope that we will support our team with all our passion -- not just in deed, but in word also.

Well support for sports teams usually hinges on attendance. Maybe the Expos had tons of fans talking about how great they were going to be... but none of them showed up for the games, or any other events. Now they have been moved.

Supporting your team in word does not mean picking them to win every game. Guess what, they are not going to go 32-0-0. I picked them to make the playoffs! They could still win the championship at that point! Supporting your team means cheering for them and DOING things also to show it. It's very uncommon for an expansion team to be good (yes I know about the Fire in 98). I'm sorry you have a demanding job. But to say I don't have conviction or passion is ridiculous. You think predicting RSL to finish #1 is more important than all those things I've done and continue to do?

If that is your belief, then so be it, we disagree. But what happens if RSL actually suck? Will you still have your convictions and passion as you work at your demanding job? Because I will still be ATTENDING all the games and any other event, and advertising those events on my own dime. I'm a student too, by the way, so it's not like I'm raking in the cash (and I live in Provo too).

I just don't see how my conviction and passion can be questioned after all this, and you seem so secure because you predict they will finish higher (or so you imply, I haven't seen your prediction list yet).

I will keep supporting RSL whether they are undefeated or lose every game. Maybe I'll come down to your demanding job after the games and give you a recap, while flapping my homemade flag and wearing my RSL gear. Then you can predict them to finish higher than me and we'll see who is considered more passionate.

We do support the same team, right? I wouldn't want anything to come between that commonality between us. I look forward to supporting RSL in any and every way I can. And I know you will too. Thanks for all you do.

Yeah we support the same team, and I'm glad. I've got nothing against you whatsoever, I just feel the need to defend myself when someone questions my loyalty to my team!

On a historical note, that may have been the first fight in the RSLorg forum! Do we win a prize or something? :p

No, it wasn't a fight. Perhaps I was just "pushing back" a bit. Recall above that I said, "I certainly don't question your loyalty." I am happy to be amongst such passionate fans. That bodes well for us and our team.

them's fighting words.

I hope you are convinced of MY passion and conviction now. I didn't mean to turn it into a resumé but surely you can understand it hurts to have your passion and conviction called into question without any provocation.

I hope you see my point of view.
