Very naughty words enter my thoughts.....

😠

Too bad. We win a very difficult group only to fall to a third-placed team that had possibly underachieved in its own preliminary group.

Still, a lot of the younger lads impressed me and we show promise for the future.

At least Czar Jake and I will be able to pull something positive out of this. USA is # 1 in my book all the way, but FORZA ITALIA! as well.

USA is always #1 in my book. World Cup 2006 we are going to be strong... but watch out for the U.S. in 2010 world cup champions.

Went home and watched the game...a few thoughts...

1. Bad luck!!!! a goal of Proctors back....and another from our own team.
Without those 2 goals the game is tied...and a different out come.

2. Too many missed chances. Petersen got a sweet pass in the box and it was as though he was not expecting it at all.

3. I honestly think we looked like the better team. Just got some bad breaks. I think our youngsters looked great. Can't wait too see what happens.

Good article by Marc Connolly on MLSnet.com about the U-20 team:

http://www.mlsnet.com/MLS/news/mls_news.jsp?ymd=20050621&content_id=34085&vkey=news_mls&fext=.jsp

As disappointing as it was to lose to Italy, I am only more encouraged about the development of American players by what I saw in Holland.

I also agree that Sigi is likely the best judge of talent we have among our top level coaches, and he has a tremendous knack for finding the right team chemistry.

My one concern about Sigi--and this comes from years as a Galaxy supporter before RSL came along--is that he isn't quite so good as a bench coach. It's tough to judge by the U-20's since they're essentially an All-Star team, but the second half collapse against Italy doesn't do anything to change my opinion.

That said, I think both Sigi and Dave Dir (that's right--Dave Dir) should be coaching MLS teams and I'd like to see them back sooner rather than later.

I was torn over who I was rooting for, to be honest. My mind went like this:

"Dude, USA is your home country, you follow their Nat team religiously. Go USA!"

"Yeah but my first soccer love was Roma and Italia, I gotta go for them!"

"Yeah but USA needs it more... go USA!"

"But it will make way more people happy if the Italians win.. nobody here cares and everyone cares there... Forza Italia!"

Anyway, I was sad that USA lost but happy that Italy won. Did anyone else think that Pelle' was the bomb for Italy? That kid is going to be a star. Not a bad last name for soccer, either!
