I'm not so sure I can say L.A. is a top-tier team right now, however.

You're absolutely right.

The NoCal/SoCal rivalry is as intense as any and extends well beyond sports.

I've lived extensively in both areas and it's clear that the rivalry is felt much more strongly in NoCal. Lots of resentment, jealousy, and disdain.

And no, neither side pays much attention to the ValCals (Central Valley) or the MoCals (the Sierra Nevadans).

So this is a natural soccer rivalry that is now even more intense due to Donovan's move.

Yesterday's game will only add to the mix.

Landon Donovan returned to San Jose for the first time as a visitor, and a season-high crowd of 15,917 watched the Earthquakes beat Los Angeles.

15,917? I guess I don’t realize how lucky our team is with game turnouts.

Yes, that's a big crowd in San Jose. They're averaging just under 11,000 for a very competitive team.

I used to live in San Fran, so I know all about the animosity there (they believe that those greedy SoCal's steal all their money...).
I was just pointing out that since about half the SJ and LA teams used to play on the other team (Ching and Moreno for SJ and Dunivant & Donovan for LA quickly come to mind), that could greatly increase the heat between these 2 teams. And AEG owning them might be the fuel for the large amount of transfers between these teams.

Very true. The player "exchange" just adds a little cleat to the tackle.

Not as big of a loser as I am. I spent a Saturday night home watching it while my friends were working the beer stand at the Arts Festival.

It was totally worth it though! I almost fell off the bed laughing at the Landon Donovan pinata and other assorted arts and crafts projects the Quakes fans brought out. :gay:

LA was horrible. They appeared to have reverted to the famous U-12 tactic of "Boot It".

What the heck happened to Brad Davis? That was a lot of blood. Ouch!
