This actually fits in a couple of threads but I will post it here because it directly effects RSL

Andy Williams has stated that he is no longer interested in playing international football and is retiring from the Jamaica team.

"I'm retiring after this," Williams told The Gleaner in an interview on Saturday night, following the Reggae Boyz' elimination from the CONCACAF Gold Cup after suffering a 3-1 loss to the United States in the quarter-finals at the Gillette Stadium in Foxboro.

Quote:

I can't elaborate," he said. "Too much madness is going on. I'm leaving it for the youths to deal with it. I'm going to continue playing for my club. I can't retire from that. That is what's putting food on my table.

Good! We need him back. He was playing pretty good before he left and looked really good for Jamaica. We could sure use all the help we can get right now.

Yay for RSL!

I wonder why he's quitting though.

Quote:

"My heart's in it but I'm missing a lot of games for my club and a lot of time away from my family, it's not worth it right now," he added.

Sounds like he's concerned for RSL.

Wow. That's definitely good for us. Too bad he didn't come up with this idea a couple months ago.

that is the best news I have heard all day!

I think a lot of it had to do with his family. Probably missed his adorable little girl.

Aerick · 07-18-2005, 11:39 PM

That IS great news!!

Remember this was right after being eliminated from the Gold Cup, so there may be some frustration there, too. In any case, I think we'll all be glad to have him concentrating completely on our favorite team.

Actually I read or heard Andy say this was his last International competition before he even left for the GC.

It might have even been an FSN interview with Bill Riley.

In the John Ellinger 1280 talk this morning, Coach E said, "If we could have had a leer jet pick him up and bring him for the last Saturday game, we would have done it."
