More on first match v. Metrostars
Quote:
ex-Metros midfielder-forward Clint Mathis could be wearing the RSL colors -- red, gold and blue -- in his first MLS appearance since leaving the club and league after the 2003 season.
Iain of metrofanatic.com is quoted on Onion Bag as saying;
Quote:
I can excluslively reveal that Mathis will be playing for ReAl (barring injury) and that they will be sporting their away jersey which is all white - 3 stripes down the sleeve and SALT LAKE written in red across the chest.

Obviously the schedule is set (if we have our first – third games in place) and they are just waiting to release it. How about some sort of contest for whoever can break the news on the full schedule? (Someone with ties to the FO?)

I don't remember the details, but Trey Fitz-Gerald told us that the schedule would be released in January, but it would be a tentative schedule.

It will have to be adjusted later on as [sarcasm]more important sports'[/sarcasm] schedules are announced. Then the broadcasters will bump us off and we'll have to reschedule games. Grrrr....

20 years ago, if you were an American soccer fan, it would be the other way around, and you would be loving your move from Salt Lake to St. Louis. Funny how times have changed.

Also, if you have a good internet connection, MLSnet broadcasts all games that get televised(except national tv games) over the web for free. So if MSG or anyone else televises the game you can see it, provided you have high speed internet. If you don't have high speed you can still watch it but the quality is so poor it's not worth it. But with broadband the quality is usually very good. You can test it out by watching a Serie A game, at yahoo.com.

This could quite conceivably fit under the Mathis to RSL??? thread as well but since the two threads seem to be merging because of the first game and Mathis playing his ex-mates, I will post it here only

Deseret Morning News Article

Quote:
With the virtual inevitability that U.S. National Team bad boy Clint Mathis will be sporting a Real jersey this year, the atmosphere at Giants Stadium will be particularly intense as Mathis faces his ex-teammates.

WEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!

Bring on the Metros!!!!

I think we got a great first 3 games of the schedule. Our first game will be at the Metros in a huge market. Since it's their first game, it ought to draw well, and since it's a NY market, it should be televised somewhere (hopefully a local channel will pick it up!). Therefore, curious fans will see them in front of a big crowd on tv. Week 2 is the Galaxy's first home game, so they should also draw well, same thing as week one. By then curious fans have seen two games with big crowds and want to see our team at home. Luckily just then RSL comes home for our first home game, hopefully drawing well also. Three home openers (albeit visiting for two of them) is a great way to start the season.

I might try to go to the Metros/RSL match. I have family in Jersey.
