Well folks... to my knowlege this is the only photo that has any smoke in it.
I didn't even know I got it until i had a look thru my shots.

I wish i would have known ahead of time... that would have been cool to catch on film...

Of course rumors can be rather dangerous.

Flags were very nice. I especially like the Pirates flags of the RCB. Gives us sort of a swash-buckling image.

Yo ho ho!

I don't get the skulls/crossbones thing w/ RSL. Or the military thing. Is this just men's way of making sure the testosterone level stays high enough? Because, correct me if I'm wrong, pirates and military don't really have anything to do with RSL or soccer.

I think the "Pirate" thing isn't so much about pirates and more about the symbol of the skull and crossbones. Pirates just happened to use that symbol, therefore it's automatically associated with pirates.

As far as the military thing, I don't recall seeing too much on this forum linking RSL to the military, unless you're referring to RCB. Military can be indirectly attributed because Real could be interpreted to be dealing with royalty, which usually involved some form of military might. Aside from that fact, utilizing military-based undertones in any type of system or organization has all sorts of positive conotations! Organization, strength, loyalty, comeraderie, brotherhood (and sisterhood), bravery, and I could go on and on and on. It's like the Scouts - striving for the good of the whole by improving the self and aligning to higher principles. I would have no qualm in any type of connection to the military for RSL and/or a supporters club.

Wow, you really wanted to stir the pot today, didn't you? :naughty:

Aerick explained it pretty well, I think. Although, I have to say I don't get the pirate thing either. I mean, the crown was usually fighting pirates, not celebrating them. Privateers, maybe, but pirates? But some folks went to a lot of trouble with those flags, and even if I don't get it I applaud their enthusiasm.

As for the military, there's no doubt that monarchy includes the responsibility to maintain military power, and every court has a royal guard of some kind. All that knights-of-the-roundtable stuff, or cavaliers from the English Civil War in the RCB case. It don't think it's out of place with the RSL theme.

As for the testosterone influence--of course! Soccer is a sport, and they do keep score. Our city against their city. So long as it stays relatively civil and we let the players do the battling . . .
