Another incident at the game that I thought deserved mention was in the aftermath of Jamie's red card Josh Wolff came over near the sideline. He had just be whining to the ref about something so he was taking the normal crap from the fans. A bunch of us were yelling "You suck Wolf" and the like. The next thing I know Wolff turns to the fans and points to the scoreboard and says 4-2. So it of course starts to rain down harder. Then Wolff goes to the obscene gesture. I was really pretty unimpressed there. I guess that the refs didn't see it b/c he wasn't carded. I was just really shocked to see something like that out of Wolff. He has to have played in stadiums where the fans say much worse than "You suck Wolff." Why the reaction like that tonight? Not that I was Josh Wolff fan before, but I am certainly not now.

Don't underestimate the intensity of an RSL home game. I've been to a number of MLS stadiums around the country since the league started and I can tell you that these players are experiencing something new when they come to Utah. They simply aren't used to the passion of RSL fans. That doesn't excuse Wolff's actions and I hope someone got a photo of it because that warrants discipline by the league. At the very least he should be professional enough to walk away. __________________

Yep, I saw it and was quite shocked. It happened and was quite blatant by Wolff. There was no mistaking the gesture and the words he mouthed w/ it. I am pretty sure that some of the other section 37 guys saw it. I can't be sure though. I sadly doubt that there is any footage of it. I was kind of right in front of the RSL bench and media table there though as well. I wonder if someone from there saw it. Not sure. I was just too shocked to look around and see who else might have seen it.

Hmm, interesting. I just figured that SLC was similar to other MLS stadiums and that the RSL fans are great stuff was just a bit of rhetoric. Interesting. I guess the I am sure Wolff has heard worse was related to the his time with the national team. I am sure that the stuff spouted in away games in CONCACAF isn't very nice....

I have to say I'm really disappointed to hear that Wolff responded as he did to the fan heckling. Before I became an RSL fan, I supported the Chicago Fire beginning around the 2000 season partly because of Wolff. I thought he was a really exciting player to watch, and I really enjoyed the success he had with the national team during the 2002 WCQ's, especially that great game he against Mexico. Even though I haven't followed him as much lately because of his trade to Kansas City, I still like to see him do well. I've never really heard of him doing anything like you described before, and, while I'm not exactly going to be tossing my autographed Fire jersey, I'm very disappointed. He really should have just ignored the taunting. Last edited by Hermey : 08-13-2005 at 11:53 PM. Reason: Grammar mistake

U can't do this! in other leagues you'd get a minimum of 2 games suspension... so sad, Wolff is an international known player... he is with the nats, and I know for sure, he gets so much worse comments when he is playing against other national team... he wasn't thinking right

No excuses for him--he's played in CONCACAF, where fan behavior is usually way out of hand. But RSL has a tough home crowd, already among the top in the league. Despite all that, Wolff should know better. __________________

If wolff pulled down his shorts and mooned the fans it doesn't excuse throwing things on the pitch...yell louder, be vile, degrading...moon him back, but it is always inexcusable to throw things on the field. I was ashamed of the RSL fans involved in this tonight, and we need to take steps to see that tonight's behavior is not repeated.
