Missed opportunities lead to RSL loss

Fading Real fast: Chances of making MLS playoffs lessen with shut-out loss

I don't think the team looked bad at all, last night. They played well. It's just too bad that they couldn't seem to find the back of the net.

I thought that Scarlett was a VERY good thing on the attack. Time after time he got the ball down the left wing and was able to cross. But time after time, there was no striker in the box to put it away. The strikers were all about 5 steps behind him.

Now that they know that he's going to get through with the ball, maybe they'll be in position to do something about it in future games.

We also still have a lot of passing backwards. Andy Williams, still loves to pass backwards. I'd like to see them moving the ball forward instead of backwards.

All in all, the team played well, but didn't score any goals. To win, you have to score goals.

Look at the shots and shots on goal:

Earthquakes

SOG: 6
I think this'll be the year that goes down in RSL history as the year of bad luck. I would rather have no luck at all, than fluctuate between bad luck and good luck. We definitely haven't had our fair share this year of lucky shots, lucky opportunities and lucky calls (we've had some, but not our fair share).

Here's a theoretical question for you: Is it better to pass backwards to ensure possession of the ball with 100% accuracy, or is it better to pass forwards with a 50% chance of maintaining possession?

Good game, but the team looked practically panicked the last few minutes, passing the ball blindly to the other team again and again and again. We had a lot of good chances, but things just didn't mesh 100%.

My favorite new chant: "Scarlett Fever!"

My least favorite new people: the stinking girls who came and stole Jamie away from us. Grrr! 😉

That's a good question, but we were unable to ensure possession by passing backwards.

The longer we kept it without making an attempt on goal, the higher the odds were that we wouldn't get a chance.

We can't hold the ball forever. You have to move fast. Forward.

Well, if done right, it isn't a 50% chance...if you pass TO someone, if there IS someone to pass to. Of course, if there isn't anyone to pass to, then it wouldn't be a 50% chance either, more like a 1% chance, and that's whats happens so often. Usually, there are one or two people open, but the person with the ball doesn't see them.

Of course I'm seeing it from above where that is more obvious. From the field it looks entirely different. They need to work at getting open, and seeing the open person.

The rest of the league will be relieved--someone other than an RSL player will win Goal of the Week.

If I’m not mistaken, this is the first week since we broke that horrible non-scoring streak that we haven’t scored.

Also Jamie Watson has played in every game since that time (he's the one that actually broke the streak). And he doesn’t play last night, and what happen? Coincidence? I’ll let you decide 😛

I will not comment further for fear of jinxing us.
