I just wanted to post one of the many frustrating moments from last night.
The Smurf actually trips over the ball. there was no one near him. Momentum carries him into Rusty Pierce, Pierce honestly appeared to be trying to steady the guy so he does not fall to the ground. WHISTLE BLOWS!!! FOUL called on Rusty Pierce! It was a pathetic call! ---------- I am working on other pics uploading.... Last edited by Deuce : 08-21-2005 at 08:55 PM.

I guess, the bottom line is what percentage chance of success is it worth it to pass the ball forward, than to pass it backwards for another option to pass it forwards from a different angle? 25%, 50%, 75%? I don't think the midfielders "run the numbers" as such when they get the ball, but I'm sure there's some sort of thought process that deals with each situation in a similar fashion. Experience probably plays a big factor in those types of split-second decisions, but I'm generally more in favor of them maintaining possession for 1 to 2 minutes in an attempt to setup a great forward pass, than I am with them making 3 to 4 statistically less successful attempts to pass it forward in that same time span. That's just me. __________________

There's nothing wrong with trying to maintain possession in and of itself.
Unfortunately, we almost always play the easy squirrel ball in the midfield, giving the opponent time to get numbers back and organize. Then someone inevitably tries to dribble through like three defenders, gives up the ball, and we're scrambling back again while the opponent hits a long diagonal ball behind our defenders' butts (i.e. Dunny about six or seven times in the last game) and they're right back on goal. We very, very rarely find a good forward pass when we play squirrel ball like that. If we had more variety in our attack, it wouldn't bother me as much, but it seems like we're constantly doing it and never learning from our mistakes.
