Just my thoughts.

And yes, I think Scars hair is sahweeettt.
Judging by observations today at practice, it kind of looks as if Dunseth is not starting.

Okay, so if you have cool hair, you play better? I'm confused. I guess that would explain why we haven't been doing too well lately. 😛

I'm totally joking guys, but had to add to the 'hair' thread 😉

Lol, yup, that's it, if all the guys went in and got their hair styled we'd play ten times better. :dancing: :signrocko

Back on topic... it seems that Ellinger is making statements that would suggest all new signings will have to earn their spot on the team. On the one hand this is understandable, on the other if seems strange because the team has been very weak at the spots that these players can contribute. Since every game counts now (it's crunch time) and they're playing against a team in their division, shouldn't they be trying to roll the dice and test the fresh blood?

Also, I'm a bit nervous about all I hear/know about Scarlett. We keep reading statements about how fast he is. And I concur, he is very fast and has a nice touch when running at people on the ball. I distinctly recall seeing him play a few times for Jamaica, however, and at the time I was thinking that he's not too dangerous because, while quick, he was also inconsistent with his distribution and predictabe in his read of the game.. If speed was that much of a crutch then players like Jamil Walker would be infinitely more dangerous on the field. Could Scarlett be a Pando-like player where the coach brings him in and is mesmerized with one aspect of his game so much that he's overlooking some important weaknesses which may become ever more obvious when playing in a higher level league (Jamaica's league just ain't the same competition as MLS)? Just a question that we'll all find out in due time. I like the acquisition and remain extremely positive, but something doesn't sit right with me when the coach keeps harping on how dangerous he is because of his speed!

Scarlett has been compared to DeMarcus Beasley... his week spot being that he only has one style of cross. Of course that is if you thtrust John Ellinger. I have no worries about Scarlett. Does he still have some to learn? Yes. But is he an upgrade... I believe so.

This morning's Trib article made it sound like Coach E was ready to bench practically the whole first team.

Ought to be interesting to see who ends up starting...

Ever since the shark fin went away. In the home opener, Dunny, DJ, Clint, Kreis, and I think one other player had the shark fin. Then it went away and we started sucking. It's all about the shark fin...

I bet that Ellinger looks at scrimmage performance, as well as reserve games and then gives some guys the possibility of subbing in. If they perform well as subs, then I bet they move into starting positions. There is a certain point where one needs to trust a player's past films and what not and just give them the start, however.

The real problem is the 3-sub limit. If we had 4+ subs per game, it would make trying a player out much easier. But such is soccer life.

If these guys AREN'T better than Dunny and Pierce (what the heck happened to Pierce, anyway? He used to kick trash in the backline...) than why on earth did we pick them up? To replace Behncke?

Is it just me, or is Behncke scary?

Now, Scarlett and Cabrera both play for their respective national teams (Jamaica and Guatemala) and both of these countries have decent teams. This isn't necessarily a precedent (remember Rojas? Ugh!) but I'm pretty excited to see how they do.

Coach Ellinger on Scarlett

Adding to the pool of national team players on Real's roster is another defender and Jamaican international Scarlett. A somewhat regular feature in the Jamaican player pool, Scarlett has also played in Russia and reminds Ellinger of another great player he has coached.

"He is like a DaMarcus Beasley," said Ellinger.

He has lighting quick speed and a great shot, and will usually figure as a fullback or even a wide midfielder. Something many people expect to see is a lot of quick runs down the flank.

"He is obviously a guy we are not going to hold back when he is ready," said Ellinger. "But he will most likely come off the bench this Saturday. He has to earn his time."

Looks like Scarlett will be coming in off the bench... but if he plays like Beasley he would be a GREAT pick up for real salt lake.

Scarlett was playing with the first team yesterday in practice. But after reading the article this morning, that may not mean much.
