Nolly in Countess out

Jay Nolly will start in goal on saturday against the Earthquakes for a struggiling D.J. Countess. I have been waiting for this move for awhile, as has most of the team I have heard. Many starters have gone to the coach and lobbied for Nolly to start many weeks ago and now it seems like Countess will be relegated to the reserve team if Jay plays well for the rest of the season.

Do you have a source for this or are you speculating? Just curious.

I'm a little torn here... I love DJ and I love the way he plays, but I really like Jay too and want to see him get a chance... Ah man! No matter who starts I love them both and I wish the best of luck to both. There, does that work? 🙂

JohnD, I noticed that this is your first and only post to this forum. Welcome to the forum. Just for the record, where are you getting your info?

I have to admit, if this is true

I'm a bit uneasy about it. I think D.J. has definitely proven himself. I think he's done better preventing dangerous rebounds, and

our defensive problems aren't with him. Our problem is that we allow so many balls through.

Something is bound to get past him.

Saturday's game is critical. Especially after Colorado's HUGE win yesterday.

Personally, I'd feel better with DJ in there.

❓

We've only seen Nolly in a couple of games-- the one after DJ hurt his shoulder, one other I think. Has he played in most or all of the reserve games? How has he done there? The reserves record isn't so great, but that may reflect a lot more than just goalkeeping (such as offense, defense!).
I look forward to seeing Nolly play, but this is a BIG game for us. Do you stick with the keeper you know, warts and all, or do you try something new? Ellinger has tried new stuff everywhere else on the field to try to see if things can click, maybe it's time for goalkeeper too.

I think I agree that I'd feel better keeping DJ in there, but I have to disagree that he's not at least PART of the defensive problem. Our back line has been porous, to be sure, but it's not like DJ has been organizing them well or working all that well with them. It's not his style to come out of the line, as he obviously likes to rely on his quickness (which has probably saved us a few times), but if he were to come out and work on stopping crosses/corners, he'd have to face a lot fewer shots on goal. So in a way, he's digging his own grave as far as having to face shots.

I have to admit, that was a great way to start a conversation. As for the information, I'm also curious about your source JohnD.

btw, JohnD, did you used to post on the old Blitzz boards? You sound really familiar.
