Oh, Clarette is right. Indian food in England is fantastic. Kebabs are fantastic. Love 'em. Never got a chance to try the potatoes, but I'm willing to bet they were great.

Are you kidding me? I am constantly amazed at people who choose to visit a foreign country and then whine about it. You obviously made some very poor choices to eat at. 🙂 On the flip side, I'm sorry that you had such a sorry time there, most people find the opposite to be true. The number 1 restuarant in the world this year is English, (it was number two last year), 4 of the top 10 restuarants in the world are English. 10 of the top 30 - that's one third - British. Of the top 50 the number one nation with more than any other nation is ... Britian. The chefs and winners are chosen by 600 members of the chefs organisations, chefs, jounalists, and food critics from all over the world - mostly from outside the UK. Funnily enough the number 3 in the world was in California - the chef trained in - Britain. Any questions? By that I mean, next time you travel, do some research. Or ask and I or a fellow countryman can help give you some suggestions on where to eat. Last edited by Scholesy : 09-12-2005 at 12:10 AM.

The one place I would always recommend to eat at is The Grand in Brighton. The breakfast buffet at that place was top notch. (Special thanks to my husband's secretary who decided to book the nicest hotel in Brighton for us...)
I'm sure there are some very fine higher-end eating establishments. But on my budget, you can't afford to go to the best. So you go to the average, which is often not all that great. And I have had three very nice trips to Britain. The food did not constitute the whole of my experience, obviously. I'd like to have a trip to the northern half of England, where my ancestors are from. London is ... sorry .. just another big city, and I did like Brighton QUITE a bit, but I want to see the beautiful countryside, not just more buildings. I'm not a big fan of big cities... I'll take "Baden bei Wien" (osterreich) anyday, where I lived for six months. Mountainous alps sprouting up on every side, lush green countryside, ponds and flowers and broken-down castles... Ahhhhhhh....
