As most of you know, I'm a bigger hockey fan than anything else. I don't even want to consider the idea of an NHL team coming here because it's too good to comprehend.

Salt Lake will not build a new 20,000 seat hockey arena and wouldn't fill it if they would. This is the city that tore down the Salt Palace. Clarence Campbell called the Salt Palace "The finest hockey viewing venue in North America."

(Wow...it would be sweet.)

Deuce, Aero....YOU ARE BOTH OFF MY CHRISTMAS LIST. For now. I could change my mind later. I'm surprised at you Aero, you were supposed to say that "Salt Lake couldn't have a team as good as the Cowboys, because they would have to do a lot of drugs just to be as bad as the Cowboys"

You two are boogers...but, I still like ya 😉

This isn't so he can bring it here in my humble opinion. I think it's his second step to buying an NBA team.

Sure looks like he's actually buying an arena, and the hockey team comes with it.

The previous owner tried to bring an NBA team to St. Louis...when it didn't happen it spelled the end because the hockey team lost so much money....I don't think there is any reason to believe that the NBA will put a team there soon. They may eventually, and Checketts will have time to wait.

I think it's a good investment. The team just lost $6 million over the past two so Checketts can buy it (relatively) cheap. Meanwhile, the new CBA with the extremely low opening cap makes turning a profit not only likely, but with cost certainty in the CBA, profit is a certainty as well. The NHL just put the hurt on the players, the same kind of hurt the NBA put on their players a few years ago that spelled some pretty good profits for team owners.

Buy low, sell high.....I was shocked that any NHL owner would sell now, seeing that the red should turn to black very soon. They must have needed to money very badly.

I think the St. Louis Spirits II will be another ABA team joining the NBA. David Stern & David Checketts go back a ways I believe.

I'm not saying he'll certainly leave it there if he gets and NBA franchise, but I think in order to purchase an NBA franchise you have to have a certain image, have proven successful in other major league sports and so he puts himself in a good position buying a team he can turn around, and turn it around he will. Bottom line is he must have a very supportive group of investors that have a great confidence in him. This is just the beginning of the Uncle Dave Sporting Empire.

I agree with the image factor, and he's very smart to get into the NHL right now when making a profit will be fairly easy with the new CBA. He gets to look like a hero when, in fact, the job isn't that tough. Clearly he knows what he is doing and seems to get in at just the right times.

They were talking about this on the radio this morning. There won't be an NHL team here anytime soon. Hell, the Grizzlies just dropped down a league. The thought is that Checketts bought the team (and the lease at their building) to acquire an NBA team..which is his dream. Plus, the NHL is at a serious low-point right now. So like was said before....buy low, sell high.

And the Av's stink!
