I thought the crapids players were almost as classy as our own. When we were taunting the players, they smiled, waved and welcomed it. My favorite moment of the entire evening was after people threw junk on the field. During a lull, Joe Cannon walked over, picked up all the stuff and walked confidently to the supporter's corner. Right below the RCB guys, he threw the stuff into the garbage can, ignored the taunts and walked back to his net. It was classic because he picked the stuff and it looked like he was about to just throw it to the sidelines when he spied the garbage can below RCB and made the deliberate decision to walk all the way over there. After the game, I shook his hand and talked to him a couple times and he was pure class all the way. It didn't stop me screaming during the game: "Hey Cannon, something died on your head!" and "Hey Cannon! Gentlemen Prefer Blondes!" (I don't know what that was supposed to mean... just supposed to get in his head...)

I left the evening hoping that Colorado goes all the way to the top this year and wins the MLS cup because they were so much fun to have as rivals last night. Of course, I always hope my most bitter rival wins if my #1 team doesn't. I always cheer the Utes EXCEPT when they're playing BYU and I always cheer Mountain View EXCEPT when they're playing Orem High...

Of course, I don't think I could ever cheer Chivas. Ever. Stinking goats.

That was more to waste time than it was out of any sort of civic duty on his part. He knew that by walking it to the garbage can he might be able to waste 30 more seconds before he had to take the free kick. The same goes for him cleaning up the streamers that were in his net. He was doing it to waste time. So much so that one of the Crapids defender had to take a goal kick because the ref cautioned them about wasting time.

If they had been down 2-0 I can guarantee that he wouldn't have picked the cup up or worried about streamers in the net.

Sorry Folks i hope you saved it when you had the chance.
I have had second thoughts about the propriety of posting a picture of Mr. Rocket Science so take away my 10x :bandance: and take away an extra 20 :bandance: for not having the intestinal fortitude to leave it up.
I guess my conscience got the better of me.

Definitely not civic duty. He was sending a clear message to the fans as to exactly how intimidating he thought they were. He could have just thrown the stuff off the field. I think there might have even been another garbage can closer. But instead, he walked directly into the fire, so to speak. It was hilarious.

Again, it had nothing to do with anything beyond wasting time. Cannon is probably the worst (and the best) keeper in the league at doing that. Did you notice that after he picked the stuff up, he had to examine it all very closely? That wasn't because he was interested in whether it was diet Coke or Dr. Pepper. It was so he could waste time. He picked the farthest garbage can that he thought he could get away with without it being totally blatant. That just happened to be below us. If there had been another garbage can that he could have gone to that would have been farther away without it being blatant, he would have done that. If he was really going after the fan that threw the cup to show them how unintimidated he was, he would have gone to the garbage can right below where it was thrown.

Nope. Are you?

I'm not ashamed to be a fan of all the great players in our league. I love Landon Donovan and I'm not ashamed to say it. I'm a sort-of fan of Freddy Adu and I'm not ashamed to say it. I'm also a Joe Cannon fan and not afraid to say it. Although he could definitely use a new hairstyle. (No offense, Joe, but.....) These guys are not just our rivals on the field (during which time I boo them and yell at them) but they're also guys on our national team and guys who add to the numbers in attendance at other MLS games. Without these guys there would be no MLS, there would be no Real Salt Lake and there would be no SSS coming to Sandy. There would be no Loyalists, no Rogue Cavaliers, no Jesters, etc. Am I a fan of the best guys in the league, no matter who they play for? Heck yeah. Do I give them crap when we're playing against them? Heck yeah. Proud to do both!
