Did RSL do well in the draft?

The Question: Did RSL do well in the SuperDraft? Personally I think they could have done better. I think they could have taken O'Rourke #1 and Besagno at 13. But I definitely think they could have done worse! What do you think?

Undecided.

However when we win the Cup in our first year in Grand Stadium/Courthouse/Murray Central/Fireclay Ave then we may look back on this as an important day in building our team.

Honestly, the Besagno pick left me scratching my head. Obviously Ellinger saw something in him that he really liked. I was a little surprised (disappointed) that we didn’t go with O’Rourke. But I guess we’ll see if Ellinger’s intuition pays off.

Ditto, I wanted O'Rourke, still do. But for some reason Ellinger wanted him. Lets hope he is right. My only real problem was that I got the impression, from everything I read and from watching the draft that most other MLS teams would not have drafted him in the first round. Thus we could have (theoritically)picked O'Rourke in the first and still gotten Besagno in the 2nd. IMHO.

But if we picked O'Rourke in the first round, then who would the others have picked? Assuming that Coach Ellinger wanted him, could he be sure of getting him?😕

I met him and Countess at the bank openning, yesterday. They are both nice guys. But (I must be getting old) they both are very young. You understand, that's more a comment on me than them. Who knows what they'll be like on the pitch. I assume that Ellinger knows, and is satisfied. Then I'm satisfied.:D

So to all the nay sayers...:p

I totally hear you Jim, but read what all the other coaches and scouts were saying at the combine. Unless they were all lying, no one was going to pick Nik in the first round. Sorry.

Lets just hope Ellinger, who was hired to be the coach, knows what he is doing!
I am sure he does. 🙂

Talked with Pastorino about the draft...
He said that he was very happy with how the draft turned out...
He said they got 3 players ranked in thier top 10 available list.
He also said that the trade to get Nolly was when they found out that the Keller deal was dead... so they trade up and grab the best keeper in the draft (I guess his opinion and that of Seedy Cheetos differed a bit).
He said it absolutly blew his mind that Watson was still on the board at the #13 pick.
So that being said I think the team did well. I have to trust Ellingers ability to judge and develope talent. Look at what he did with the U-17's.

Those of us who think that Besagno would have been there in the 2nd round are going to look pretty stupid when tickets to The Warehouse (overstock.com Stadium) are reduced to $2 because Real Madrid bought him for $50 million.

Well, he did lure Cleatus. He was probably the only coach in MLS that could've done it at this point. I just haven't heard any players come out and say anything negative about the guy. I have seen quotes from other former players of his (like Adu) that said that they would love the chance to play for him. While I'm sure most won't ever have the chance, it's got to be a positive sign for the franchise that so many former players like him still. :D

When you put it in that context, especially when you compare the attitude of Ellinger's former players to that of former players towards Coach 3-6-1 of my former favorite MLS team; maybe we did the right thing by drafting Adric from Doctor Who.
