One of these articles mention the invitation-only tryouts at BYU this Saturday. If anyone else has any more info on it, I would appreciate it. I would like to attend.

Arelius, you're about 30 seconds ahead of me. If anybody has any information, or can get any information, about the tryout, please post here. Are the Loyalists/general public welcome to come watch? If so, I may be able to take 30 minutes to cheat from the bedrest thing, seeing as the drive would be so short and all..... 😉

hello maybe someone can answer this question with the tryout coming up at byu next weekend.
I thought i heard awhile ago that players had to be born april 1, 1982 or later to be invited/nominated to tryout...is this true? in addition, if that is true, then why has it been mentioned some players trying out this saturday that were born before the april 1, 1982 deadline such as jorge estrada and even k.c. nordfors was born before the deadline? hope someone can help me with this...since i am confused with age deadline being mentioned of april 1, 1982 or later and then players being mentioned that were born before the deadline. thanks

The tryout is officially by invitation only. But some openings were left open for players to sort of apply for. These openings were through the various soccer organizations in the state. Each organization was allowed to make some nominations for the tryout. But RSL told these organizations that they only wanted them to nominate players under 23. Then, RSL probably went out on it's own and nominated players like Jorge Estrada. In other words, to be nominated by the Utah Soccer Association or one of the Latin Leagues, you had to be under 23. But you could be invited by RSL directly, just as if you were being invited on trial at any other time of the season if you are over 23. What RSL is saying is, "we know who the older players are, but we don't know who the young ones are so we'll leave it up to the organizations that do know who they are to nominate them."

👍 That's a good way to put it. I like your explanation. When I tried to explain it, in a previous thread. Everyone yelled, "unfair". But it isn't. They are inviting whomever they want, and for the rest, they have to be under the age limit. It makes sense to me.

Sorry guys but according to the RSL FO, BYU really doesn't want the try outs to be open to the public. RSL is trying to change their minds, but it doesn't seem likely.
Sorry. | |||||

I'm not sure if this is the right thread for this.
But here goes........ Scott & Brenes still Realists? Soccer America is not 100% accurate. But they are usually pretty good. They say that Scott & Brenes are still with RSL? Maybe they are technically, until they sign with new clubs.
