Okay, this is totally going a different way than I intended. I'm not talking mascot like a guy in a suit doing cartwheels on the sidelines. I'm talking a team nickname.

Soccer teams tend (except for many MLS teams) not to have a mascot attached to their name. Our team has no mascot attached to our name.

Teams in europe that maybe you've heard of have nicknames aside from their actual name. Man Utd. is known also as the Red Devils. Some other team that I can't remember is like the toffees. I think it's Newcastle that is the Magpies. etc. I'm not the best person to ask about what names euro teams have, since I really don't care about euro teams aside from when they play MLS teams. But, since our team has a euro style name, should we give ourselves a euro style unofficial nickname? Like the lions?

When we come up with one, an article about the team could read like this:

Real Salt Lake took on Chivas USA in a friendly this Friday at Rice-eccles Stadium. The Lions proved themselves once again the better of their expansion brethren, topping the Goats 1-0 on a Jamie Watson goal...

See what I mean?

I know we have already been dubbed the Monarchs in some reporting circles.
If that is what you mean then I can see where we need something better than a WNBA team name...

Despite it being the name for the WNBA team, I actually like Monarchs. At least as long as it is used by itself and never the Real Salt Lake Monarchs.
