It isn't the World Cup, but it is soccer nonetheless...

The Ogden Outlaws played two home games this weekend. The first game on Friday night was against the Cascade Surge. Rain poured much of the day leading up to the game, leaving the field very soggy. It stopped long enough for the game to be played. The Outlaws dominated play in the first half and had several chances, but couldn't convert until the 41st minute. In the second half it was more of the same, dominating play by the Outlaws. Three more goals were scored in the second half. One by Armin Seradavic, another by Jordan Carver and the last, his second of the game, by Kenny Hickman. The final score: 4-0

Saturday, the Ogden Outlaws went against the Abbotsford Rangers, who sit 1 point ahead of Ogden for the second spot in the Division standings. Abbotsford came out with lots of energy and knocked a header into the back of the net in the 5th minute, but it was disallowed due to an offside call. Ogden had an excellent chance early, but couldn't convert as the ball went wide. Abbotsford got on the board first with a goal in the 15th minute. The Outlaws began to control posession late in the first half and had some opportunities but couldn't connect that last pass. Ogden was taken down just outside the left corner of the box and Kenny Hickman struck the ball around the wall putting it just inside the far post to tie it at one goal each just before the half. Shortly after the half, Abbotsford headed home their second goal of the night to regain the lead. Ogden continued to press, with Bruno Baca making some dangerous runs and finally converted from a difficult angle on the right side with a beautiful strike that went between the defenders legs and over the keeper to tie the game in the 69th minute. A frustrated Kenny Hickman had a couple breakaways but couldn't get the ball in the net. In the 81st minute, Hickman got behind the defense and was taken down from behind in the box by two Abbotsord defenders. Ogden had a chance to take the lead with a PK. However, Dustin Bybee's shot sailed over the bar. The game ended in a 2-2 tie, keeping Abbotsford in second place.

STANDINGS
  1. BYU - 18 pts.
  2. Abbotsford - 14 pts
  3. Ogden - 13 points

Ogden will now head to Northern California to face the Sonoma County Sol of the USASA in the first round of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup. The game will be played on Wednesday, June 14th.

The Sahuaros play in the USASA league. Although the team is not considered professional, several of the players are. Capitalizing on its league's ability to add to the roster at any point in the season, Arizona flew in three players who have been training with the Trinidad national team just for the tournament.

This is the league that the Salt Ratz (used to play at Juan Diego in Draper and won a title their last season) played in isn't it?

Here is some info I found about the Salt Ratz and their last season. They were part of the Men's Premier Soccer league (MPSL), which is now called the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL). Their website is here.

The coach of the Ogden Outlaws, Mike Hickman, took over as the head coach of the Salt Ratz mid-season. With .500 record, they went undefeated in the remaining games and beat the Arizona Sahuaros for the league championship. The team folded at the end of that season due to financial problems arising from the owner embezzling team money.
