Fund Raising for Loyalists! Are we going to be organizing any fund raising events for the Loyalists?
I had an idea of raffling and/or having silent auctions for donated items, to raise money for the club, club events and functions. Lucky13 had the idea of talking to RSL to see if the team or players are willing to donate items to be auctioned and or raffled! I thought that was a great idea. so Loyal1... can you find out about that? I know ppl will have chances to get things signed at other RSL events but I thought maybe if we had the silent auctions online in the forums or even on ebay it could attract more than just local participation in the fund raising and it would give distant supporters the opportunity to acquire signed articles from their favorite team... I will start the ball rolling by offering to donate an RSL tee-shirt signed by Jason Kreis at his announcement. Of course it will not be up for auction until we organize something but it will be available when it is all organized. Just an idea... what does everyone think? Cheers.

I'm not sure. It seems that soliciting donations for an auction to support us is kinda odd. It seems the sort of thing you would do to support a more needy cause rather than a group that just wants money to support their hobby.

We are a non profit organization dedicated to supporting RSL as well as promoting soccer in the local communities and we will eventually need funds to promote the club itself as well as the rivalry between us and the Crapids. It is not unusual (other supporters clubs throughout the world do it) to have fund raising events to raise funds to support the club and help the club finance things that the members can take advantage of, such as trips to away games, tailgate parties, bbq's, watch parties and the like. Right now it is all good for people to offer to host viewing parties, host bbq's, plan road trips and all the other things... but when the numbers in our group multiply as alot of us expect they will and things start to cost real money and use up alot of volunteer time... people will be more and more likely to just not bother. It is not my intention to make the club a fortune 500 business (no one wants that) but if the club is going to sponsor things in the future which I was of the impression they were! then we will need funds. probably more than the dues will generate! thus we will need fund raisers. anyway the fund raising and membership aspects were discussed at the meeting the other night I was just offering a suggestion.

I guess it's not the fundraising that seems odd but just soliciting donations for it. I'm not saying it's a bad idea or that I won't support it. I'm just stating my initial impression.

Oh Ok sorry I see what you mean!
I interpreted your reply as not thinking we would need to raise funds. I offered the signed tee shirt because I thought it would help and maybe inspire others to do similar things, but I was not asking ppl to donate... especially not yet as we don't have anything organized and the club board may want to take a different approach... I apologize if I came across as asking ppl to donate things...:o

I wasn't trying to imply that you were soliciting donations from us. If I had anything to donate, I would consider it. I was thinking more about soliciting donations from the players and community. But who knows, maybe they'll want to support us like that. I guess it doesn't hurt to ask.

👍 I think you've still missed the point. If you have a t-shirt signed by Jason Kreis for sale on e-Bay, in a fund raiser, then anyone across the country who wants to purchase a t-shirt signed by Jason Kreis can bid on it and purchase it, and they know that the procedes go to the Loyalists Fund, or whatever.
The items for sale could be virtually anything related to soccer, preferably signed items, since people like to buy them and the signature adds value to the item. And if we can get some items donated by the team, even better. If the idea is to get someone else to pay for part of our very expensive hobby, it sounds like an excellent idea to me.
