Runge seems like a good guy, but he's totally clueless about soccer. (Too bad they stuck him on TV where his ignorance can shine.)

I'm looking forward to the Blaze. I went to a Warriors game at the E-Center and it was a lot of fun. I've always liked all those fringe sports. The RollerBees were great, I loved the Freezz, the Warriors were fun, etc, etc.

So I'll probably go more than once (depending on ticket prices), but if one had to stay and one had to go, I'd definitely be choosing RSL to stay!

Maybe so, but doesn't the AFL get a subsidy from the NFL?

Even if I were given free tickets for me and all my friends, I probably wouldn't consider it worth getting a babysitter for. I echo bordelais7's comment: I hope it fails just because of Runge's attitude.

It may get a subsidy, but the Garff Leadership is still lacking somewhat. Although if they do get a subsidy, that will make it slightly easier, but I real would be suprised if this lasts for an extended period in SLC.

hmm, over 5,000 season tickets already, 8,000 expected. I would say they are off to a good start. Isn't that what Real had this year?

Off to a good start, but you have to realize that their overhead is significantly greater than RSL's was.

I would love to see this do well because the Garff's happen to good friends of my wife's family. I just hope that the leadership they have can get it done, but I have my doubts...

Good for them. I hope they do well.
It is not soccer though... so it is still... not soccer!

Anyone go to the game?

If I have to hear the question, "Do you like high scorring?" one more time on the news I'm going to swollow a bunch of pills.

I watched todays game and it seriously bores me to no end.

I'm sure they call the play in the huddle....

QB: "WR, <as he's drawing the play on his hand> you go long, you you cut across the middle. I'm going to lob it to one of you. On Two."

I also watched the Real Madrid match today and it's just more exciting in soccer when there's a goal. It's a beautiful creation that usually starts on the defensive side and leads to some great plays/combinations between players resulting in an amazing shot or fantastic save.

Regular pointy ball is B O R I N G. You sit around for 3 1/2 hours just for 13 minutes of action. And most of that action consits of grossly overweight beasts bouncing their bellies off of each other while they're wearing man-tights. And then when they do something they're supposed to do, like keep a run to a 1 yard gain, they celebrate as though they just came up with cure for cancer. Seriously, if it wasn't so commonplace it would be disturbing. 🙂

Doesn't the AFL make some money off of their TV deal? I wouldn't be suprised if their costs were low enough that could make it. But to be bigger than RSL? In what ways? Total attendance? Attendance / game? Ticket revenue? Number of articles in the sports section?
