That was hilarious, and very true.

The Blaze in their second game vs. the Dallas Desperadoes (yet another stupid name):

my 2 cents

i watched the game last night on tv and had a hard time really getting into it. My reasoning for not liking the AFL is TOO MUCH scoring. In fact, Alema Harrington was saying on the tv broadcast how 1-2 stops by a defense per game is enough to solidfy the victory! It's kinda hard for me to get excited for a score when it happens so much, ya know? I mean every time the visiting team got the ball they scored pretty much. Just not exciting to me if there is not really any opposition or "struggle." I have always been a soccer fan, but not an MLS fan, so i didn't see myself catching the RSL fever last year. I eventually went to all but 3 home games (i was out of town for the 3). In other words, i caught the fever. The best part is that when someone scores it's such a huge release of energy! You have to work hard to score and i love that part of it. Makes sense i'd also be a baseball fan too eh?

Anyway, there are my two cents. i think it's funny that they were saying how huge it was and the crowd was about as big as the RSL per game average. I think the 15,000 at RES are all legit soccer fans and not "whatever is going on fans" so i don't see it hurting our attendance. I went to a few Warriors games and the attendance slowly got smaller every year with them. I'd expect the same to eventually end up hapening with the Blaze. You hear that with RSL too, but it's coming from non-soccer fans, who don't understand how faithful real soccer fans are.

There are 2 more cents!

This is my "complaint" about basketball as well. Pretty much everyone is eye level with the basket. I just don't see the excitement. my $.02

Yeah, not that I want the Blaze to fail, but I definitely don't want it to upstage RSL, and as brand-new franchises starting play within less than a year of each other, you knew the comparisons were going to come. Anyway, there was a part of me that was relieved that they only got just over 16k to their opener. I can't believe they're trying to compare their home opener to our overall average! Didn't we get more than 27k to ours? Which, then, is big league, and which is bush?

Again, I have no ill will towards the Blaze. I wish them well.

As far as the play goes, though, AFL seems like a glorified pick-up game. I think my own Turkey Bowl three months ago ended with a similar score. I just have a hard time really considering the AFL a professional league. I see now why the league has been around for 20 years with so little fanfare.

That being said, I thought it looked fun - like I might enjoy going to see a game. But I just know that at the end of the night I'll be asking myself, "Is it April yet?"

And regarding the high-scoring nature of the game, they seem to almost be billing themselves as the anti-RSL. As in, "Remember what a let-down soccer was with 500+ scoreless minutes in the middle of a winless season? Come and see the Blaze instead, where the action's guaranteed to be hot!"

Even funnier:

The University of Alabama drew almost as many fans (over 15K) for a women's gymnastics meet a few weeks ago.

Football inferno, indeed.

Anything with lots of scoring is always better than something without much scoring.

Isn't "Naughty Stewardesses XIV" a better move than "Schindler's List"?

Any hackers on this board? It would be funny to hack the "Fan Poll" on the Utah Blaze homepage.

What were your thoughts on the inaugural home game?
1. GREAT!!! I am buying season tickets!
2. Good. I had fun and will come to a few games.
3. It was alright... I might come to another game...
4. When does baseball start?

I think the substitution/hack is pretty obvious there...
