Personally I would have taken Twellman, but Ching isn't bad by any means.
Arena is quoted as saying that he chose Ching because of his great start in MLS.

Thanks I've been looking for that factoid.

And I agree.
With Klein, we are definitely going to have an advantage during the WC.

I would have thought Twellman going into the MLS season, but it is hard to leave someone home with 6 goals in 5 games over someone who just got his first goal. We can hope the Ching maintains this torrid pace in Germany.

We are going to miss DS assuming he goes as expected. It will be interesting to see what MLS players go the the WC from the other countries. Klein is a great leader to have around all summer.

I like ESPN Soccernet's info.

The roster comprises 12 players that are based overseas, with the remaining 11 currently playing in MLS. Of the players named to the roster, only four have never played in MLS (Steve Cherundolo, Keller, Oguchi Onyewu and Reyna).
So the MLS is molding guys into world class players. Sure, we are losing talent right now as they depart overseas, but part of the original goals of the MLS were to generate more home-grown talent. As the league continues to grow, age, and improve, more of these guys will stay at home. Its exciting to see how much the MLS has accomplished and what it has done for US soccer in only 10+ years.

Plus, the children of today are watching MLS games and focusing goals and dreams on playing in the MLS.

I suspect that it wasn't so much that Ching has shown he can score against the Rapids as he can fit into McBride's shoes better than Twellman. If you could give BA some truth surim I wouldn't be suprised to hear him say that TT was the better performer of the two over the last year or two, just that it's not only a matter of individual performance but also how they'll fit in with the team as a whole.

I'm not sure about the shoes; can't find their sizes anywhere on the internet. But they have the same first name. 🙂

Oh, I guess you mean the way they play is more similar???

As I recall, Ching played in some of the qualifiers too. I think he scored in at least one of those. (Jamaca and El Salvidor?) That experience might have counted in Bruce's calculation.

Damn, Hejduk is a big loss...good WC experience and a better defender than Albright.
