The demise of KJQ...

Admittedly, I haven't been listening to the radio a ton ever since I got my iPod, but I couldn't figure out why KJQ was playing Pat Benatar and Billy Ocean last weekend...

I got this e-mail today:

***

Dear KJQ Insider,

Friday, January 21 st marked the end of an era for all of us at KJQ as we experienced a format change from Classic Alternative KJQ to what is now known as 103.1 JACK FM. We understand that this abrupt change probably came as quite a shock to many of you, our loyal KJQ listeners. It is a decision that was out of our hands, but came as the result of months of market research based on revenue and ratings.
Thank you for your loyal dedication to KJQ throughout the years. It's been quite the ride and we've thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to enjoy great music with you.

All the Best,

The KJQ Staff

😠

Just in case anyone else was confused...

I remember listening to KJQ back in the late 80's early 90's... when they had the REAL Bessie the Milk Beast... you remember the old Cream o' Weber/Hiland milk truck that looked like it was last used in the 50's...
I still have a Blue Nile CD that I got from one of Bessie's many Milk Stops. And I think if I dig deep enough in the closet I might be able to find my KJQ - Milk Beast cow print tee-shirt. That was one of my favorite shirts back in the day!

I saw the new "Bessie" on I-15 and it was just a box truck painted in the traditional cow print. With so many ads on it that it just looked like a bad paint job instead of the cow print!

They changed over to x96 back in about 95, while I was in the navy....

Gone but not forgotten....
When I was in England I was quite pleased to find KJQ was back on the air and doing internet broadcasting so I introduced the Home of "Bessie the Milk Beast" to an unsuspecting british public with mixed reviews...

I am sure that there are a few folks in Mansfield, England... not too pleased with Pat Benatar and Billie Ocean... as I am not pleased either!

This is the second time KJQ has gone away so keep your chin up!
They may come back again!

The Milk Beast is Dead.... Long live the Milk Beast!

Weird '80s mishmash, from what I can tell.

Deuce, the old KJQ shirts were the cooooolest... we used to wear ours in high school thinking we were all "alternative", heh.

Yeah I think I had one of those shirts too.. were they known as "Bullshirts" or am I thinking of something else?

KJQ was great, this new channel plays a really strange mix of whatever.. which can be good sometimes but other times it sucks. I guess with X96, 107.5, KJQ, and to a certain extent My 99.5 all playing the same stuff, there wasn't room for all of them.

Which brings me to my next point: The recorded voices they play on My 99.5 are SO ANNOYING.

The saddest day for me though was when Z93 changed to a country station. I thought there would be riots!

Ciao.

I loved the old KJQ. I grew up listening to it. I liked it when they played that 'red, red wine' song by whoever the hell sings it

The John and Dan Morning show on Z93 was ace!
John Carter does the morning on Arrow 103.5 now... It is just not the same without Dan Bomis...

Too true. Though John is good by himself too. I met him once at a Doobie Brothers concert, he was really cool and he was hilarious. I don't remember much from the concert except that I couldn't stop laughing at John Carter... of course it was a DOOBIE brothers concert so maybe that had something to do with it :D

Classy guy though.
