You might assume that I'd be all over this, changing my logo to The Denny's Omlette and screaming "Theocracy!" at the top of my lungs.
But I usually don't drink during a game and I assume that RSL's stadium would follow Home Depot Center's pricing policy and Jose Luis Luviano's Word Of Wisdom is "Don't pay $8 for a beer." But isn't coffee also supposed to be a dreaded menace to society and health? Victoria Street had some yummy iced coffee. At $5, it was also a ripoff, but you needed lots of caffeine to watch a Sigi Schmidt team. I gotta wonder if we'll be able to get coffee at State Street.

When my mother was pregnant with me they did an ultrasound and found she was having twins. When they did another ultrasound a few weeks later they discovered that I had reabsorbed the other fetus. Do I regret this? No. I believe his tissue has made me stronger. I now have the strength of a grown man and a little baby.

Like Stucki said.
We can hate on Uncle Dave and the people that run the big building downtown that looks like Pudding Pops. But the Dallas Crackheads, errrrr, Cowboys, had to have a special law passed to allow them to serve alcohol. The city where the Cowboys play is located in a dry county. I agree with this; I would not want to watch the Crackheads sober.

Sigh. This thing just keeps getting uglier and uglier. I know there are lots
of different opinions on these stadium issues, so if you disagree with me, well then I guess you disagree with me. On the funding and location issue, I feel that without question the thing got very political. In recent times, the Utah legislature passed measures making it difficult for Salt Lake City to attempt to pursue a stadium project, then passed other legislation making it somewhat easier for Sandy to become the potential location for the stadium. (I'm not taking sides here, I'm just stating a fact that the Utah Legislature is somewhat closer politically to conservative Sandy leaders than it is to the liberal Salt Lake City leaders.) This has resulted in upsetting some people on both sides. I read opinions on this boards and others where people say they will refuse to attend games in Sandy, and others who would not attend games in downtown Salt Lake. I for one will attend all the games no matter where the team ends up playing. (Hey for a couple of years, I drove to Provo to watch the Blitzz when some of their home games were at the BYU South Field.) Hopefully wherever the team ends up playing in the coming years, a lot of soccer fans will show up and continue to support the team. There are other citizens who feel they shouldn't have to help pay the cost of building a stadium and simply will not attend any games at all no matter where a new stadium is built and do not want the stadium built at all (unless entirely financed by private interests). I feel that many of this group are unlikely to attend very many games anyway but they definitely have the potential (and the right) to question use of large amounts of public money to build a stadium they feel is of no use to them. The media on all sides is making sure that the voice of those opposing the stadium is being heard loud and clear. Admittedly these stadium opponents appear to be in the majority and it could be a tough fight finalizing the stadium plans as a result. Now we have a potential debate ensuing over whether beer should or would be sold at the new stadium. Now our good owner is a fairly competant and experienced businessman and given he's going to spend lots of his own money on this project, it is his call to make. I will make an observation though that there are significant numbers of fans who say they won't attend games if they won't have the oppotunity to pay $6 or so for a 12 ounce cup of beer. I do not recall ever hearing anyone tell me they never attend a Jazz game, Grizzlies game, and/or baseball game (Bees, Buzz, Stingers, whatever they are called this year) because they feel uncomfortable in a facility where beer is sold and consumed. (Ironically the one local stadium I have heard people say they don't like to attend games at due to alcohol use is Rice-Eccles stadium where there are fans who commonly sneak in bottles of their favorite spirit to drink or mix with soft drinks bought at the stadium.) I too have seen a lot of poor behavior due to over consumption at pointy ball games at Rice-Eccles, and less of this behavior at venues that sell beer. It may be that when a single cup of beer costs almost as much as a 12-pack, it doesn't take very many beer(s) to quench one's thirst. But when someone is sneaking in their own bottle, cost isn't so much as a factor in limiting what one imbibes. I just hope that through all of this the team survives. I feel that playing at Rice-Eccles won't be a viable long-term option as the stadium is too large and the team pays too high a cost (rent, concessions, etc.) to be profitable there. but acknowledge that most non-soccer members of our community perceive that there is no reason why the team can't stay there. And wherever the team plays, it needs tons of fan support to succeed. We're in a very small market compared to other MLS cities and all the soccer fans need to get behind the team. Let's remember that all of us on these boards care about soccer and want it to survive. Making a decision to not support a Sandy stadium and/or Salt Lake City stadium is essentially a decision to not support Real Salt Lake. Of course each of us is free to use their free agency on whether to decide to attend or not. Anyway, I'm trying to keep positive about this. The MLS is fast approaching and we get to watch the WORLD CUP in June! It's going to be a great year for the beautiful game. I can't wait for the opener in a few months to see the new additions to our squad. Hope everyone here will be there to make lots of noise and support the team.

I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to articulate this correctly, but this debate about private/public funding for the new site seems to be typical Utah. We want our entertainment, but want someone else to pay for it. For the nay sayers it's easy for them to be against any public funding cause they obviously don't care about the sport. However, I couldn't agree more with the statements, nay dissertation above. 🙂 We are in a small market and we need to support this team so Dave Co remains here. I think we proved last year that we, the fans, want Real here. Oh yeah, I realize a beer or two were needed to survive last year, but honestly who needs it when watching the game? Know what I mean...
