US turned down Mexico - US in Pasadena (home team listed first)

Jimmy Goldsmith says we're Pansies.

A Mexican Federation bigwig says that Bruce Arena was afraid to schedule friendlies in May against Mexico in Pasadena and the Estadio Azteca.

The USSF said that we already had friendlies scheduled on the East Coast against teams that we don't beat like cheap veal every time we play them at Sea Level this millennium.

The Mexican federation is looking for a national team to play against with for 2 main reasons

1.it´s the azteca birthday
2. last match in Mexico before Germany (ccoooofff cooooofff 98 days coooofff coooofffff)

2 bad USMNT couldn´t be that national team...

Why would the US want to schedule a friendly against Mexico as part of it's run up to the world cup? Commons sense says the US is going to be looking to play teams that will help it prep for the world cup.

The US did play Mexico in Denver in April 2002...

Why would we want to play the equivalent of two road matches against Mexico, though? I do not count LA and Mexico City as a home-home series.
