As for cheerleaders.... we got them last year in MN and they were a disaster. There were good intentions to get them to work in the same way as the mascot and to keep them from our view, but it hasn't worked out. They didn't get involved in charity events and weren't that good in increasing the visibility of the team. Although they'll still be here this year, I have a suspicion that they won't be in 2007.

That's about how I'd sum up my approach to this. A mascot is useful but cheerleaders are not. Soccer is for everyone, and that includes the next generation of fans. We need them too. So I'm all for a mascot, but cheerleaders serve no real purpose in soccer and we don't need to go there.

I'm sorry when I think about a mascot, I think about Alex the Lion from Madagascar doing that pose in the zoo... you know the pose like the new Loyalist lion with the arms out to the side....

i love that show.

I have to say I think I like our mascot. He's not too cartoonish. They could have gone the kiddy route and made him cute and all but instead they made him look alittle fearsome.

I was honored when they told me just before he came out that he wanted to come over and grab one of my flags and run around with it. But I was scared as hell when he started waving it. He waived it harder than I ever have and I thought the pole was going to snap in half.

What was his name again? Leonardo with the nickname Leo? That is original.

I like him too.

I liked him, and my kids LOVED him!!! Which may be a good indicator that he'll enthuse more kids about attending the games. He even came to the Loyalists section and stood by us and bounced during a chant or two. When he took the flag out on the field, that was also very cool! I give him a "thumbs up"!

He tried to grab my freaking drum. I told him to leave our area, he wasn't welcome. We didn't see him again.

Are you serious? You told him that? That wasn't very nice.
