I asked my buddy who is a MLS ref (can't reveail his name, sorry) about this. He says Kreis didn't deserve a red, but Kennedy probably just forgot he yellow him already.
Sad, really. | |||||

Yes his first foul was a professional foul and deserved a yellow card...

Yes, but my point was that it certainly wasn't the first foul of this type in the game. If Kreis deserved a yellow card, then so did 5 or 6 other players. Inconsistent officiating.

I assume the officials have training sessions and go back and watch the calls from the games and talk if they were valid or not? The officials have been consistantly inconsistant this year and last.... Something needs to be done.... Why dont some of you guys go to ref school????

A few thoughts........
1. It's obvious Kennedy forgot he'd carded Kreis earlier - hell, it took half the LAG team to remind him. And watching Kennedy's body language it's obvious he wouldn't have issued the card had he remembered. Every ref's made calls he regrets, and I promise you Kennedy is thinking about this one. But as a ref, you're taught not to back down after you make a call, even if it's the wrong call. That's hard sometimes when you know you've screwed up. And the league won't back down either - they want to show solidarity so the suspension will never get overturned. 2. That said, Kreis should know he's not going to get that call in the box in the 86th minute of a 3-2 game. Like it or not, the rules change in the box, and depending on the score and the time remaining. No ref's going to affect the outcome of the game unless it's totally obvious because he doesn't want his house to get firebombed. I suspect Kreis' outrage wasn't so much about this exact no-call as it was just a release of 90 minutes worth of frustration. This was just the straw that broke the camel's back. 3. Finally, props to Chris Albright for being aware of the situation and knowing what he could get away with in that circumstance.

I have gone to reffing school... technically I have a high enough certification level to officiate MLS games, but wouldn't want to. I am to much of a fan of the game to ref anything higher than High School level. After that I am afraid I would end up watching a game I should be officiating. __________________
