Now, before everyone gets all bigsoccer on me, I know that's a ways off. But couple that with Donovan's also-somewhat-fuzzy "I'd like to play here" comments and you could maybe, just barely see an RSL in say five years with both Beckham and Landycakes. That'd draw a few crowds, wouldn't it? (I can dream about a Beckham-to-Ballouchy-to-Donovan goal, can't I?)
Beckhams swan song is not that far off! maybe 4 years or less.
I believe if Beckham comes to the US it will be in a big market... considering he has his soccer academy in L.A. and he is married to "Posh Spice" I would bet he is going to L.A. but there is a New York connection as well.

You have to also consider he is on record as saying he wants to finish his career with the galacticos AND he wants to finish his career in England.

He is nearly as dependable as Donovan's future in Germany !

This story isn't new. Real Madrid has been rumored to start an academy and eventually field a MLS team in Miami for about 2 years.

I am worried, as others have pointed out, that if RM starts an academy in Utah, it might detract from RSL's own development plans.

If it is a partnership between the two clubs, how would that detract?

I was being vague on purpose, but RSL FM on BS mentioned that RM could just use the "partnership" to get a foothold in the market and take the players that RSL could use on their team.

Just a contrary POV.

I think scholarships are what we're talking about here. They will be scouting for the best young talent in the world to come here and train in the academy.

If the academic part of the school is a Jordan District Charter School, that objection about redevelopment money goes away.
