Don't Bogart it, man.

Hey, people thought that a stadium at a state fair grounds or a disreputable state university were wacky ideas.

Now where's that bag of Doritos?

They couldn't make it a charter school because then it woudl have to be open to the general population. So I'm guessing it would be a private school.

Still, if they build it somewhere IN the Jordan School District, property taxes would rise, thus increasing JSD $$, etc. But that's the argument about the RDA money, too. I think it would be extraordinarily wise to build it in the immediate vicinity of the west-side soccer fields RSL is kicking in $7.5 million for. (And I'm enough of a political junkie/cynic to believe that the reason Rocky came to the aid of the stadium is that the academy's gonna be in SLC. Maybe not a quid pro quo so much, but maybe a little backscratching going on there.)

At any rate: Waaaahoooo! I'm starting a new scholarship fund today so that come 2022, my nephew will be the starting midfielder for RSL (and his five sisters will be starting for teams in the WMLS).

It could be a private school sponsored by the Jordan School District.

Are they allowed to do that?

There is a school for troubled youth called JAMS or something close to that. They are sponsored by Jordan District. Think that there might be another one too.

But is it actually a private school or is it a public school? Because a soccer academy could NOT survive on being a public school... Just saying... I don't know much but I'm not too sure on how this whole deal works.

I imagine it'll be private all the way. We already know it is being funded by RSL/RM. We already know it will not be "open enrollment" or even focused on the local school district. The point is to scout the best talent they can find anywhere, not in little old Salt Lake Valley. At what point would being tied down by a school district relationship hold value for either of them?

They don't need the school district's money. And there would be no incentive for the school district to provide any, since they are not selecting players solely from the local population.

It will be IMG Academy West, except staffed by RM and players will be signed by RSL.

Nice!

Will the academy be similar to the facility in Florida for the adidas generation 40? Will the focus be on getting the players through high school as quickly as possible so they can turn pro as soon as possible.
