However, not everyone on the council is on board with the resolution. Speaking to a group at the Utah Taxpayers Association conference Friday, Councilman Mark Crockett said county officials should be able to use the hotel tax money anywhere they please.

I don't think any of them really agree with you. Just because their payoff to their buddies benefits you doesn't mean they're doing it for you. They're not. None of them care about RSL. They care about Dolan and Curtis.

That's good for you, but it's extremely troubling policy.

And a stadium SOMEWHERE in Salt Lake County isn't good for you, 37? Or for Real Salt Lake?

Whats all this "you" crap? When I say "us" who else would I be referring to besides RSL fans?
Of course no one cares about soccer making it big in Utah. But if Dolan and Curtis scare SL County to give money to RSL, does it really matter in the long run? Are we going to complain about that?

Or is it that if RSL takes money from the Gov't their evil now??? 😕

This isn't entirely true... while RSL being a big success on the field may not be their top priority, I know of a couple of people on capital hill who would like to see RSL be successful because they like soccer. I am sure there are a few who have $$$ invested with the team. I am also sure that there are a few that will or have recieved contracts (for their companies) to do work on or with the stadium.

There is a myriad of reasons why legislators were for the hotel tax to help fund the stadium, but I think you would be suprised how little they care about the individuals that you named.

Politics is about what a person can do for "me." If someone holds the key to getting something you want done, done, well you had better start passing out favors and promises. The series of winks and nods that Randy Horiuchi refered to I am sure went far beyond how the new tax would be spent. That is why it was a series, not a singular wink and nod.

Welcome to the shady underworld that is politics.
