RSL 1, U17s 1

RSL tied the U17s today 1-1.

The U17s scored in the first half, when RSL used mostly reserves except for the starting back four.

In the second half, with the "A" team in, Clint Mathis scored the equalizer midway through the first half a 30-yard free kick. The U17 goalie made four incredible saves in the second half. Just ask Clint Mathis, even he was shaking his after a couple of them.

Jason Kreis slipped on a penalty kick early in the second half.

Overall, the defense looked much better, as did the attacking. The U17s played really well. They even tied Columbus 1-1 last Friday.

I'm off to eat dinner, I'll update more later.

I wonder if Nik Besagno play against Mathis as predicted?

Love this part:
After the game, Checketts took the entire team out to dinner at the Beach House restaurant.

A 30 yard goal off of a free kick, awsome!!! I can't wait for the season to begin. That reminds me of the goal he scored in WCQ against Honduras in Honduras back in 2001 I believe. If I remember correctly it was a free kick that tied the game and gave us a point on the road, or did they win that game??? Anybody else remember that? ๐Ÿ˜• Of course that was the one and only game I paid to watch on pay per view.

Isn't Kreis suppose to be pretty good on free kicks also????

GOReAL!!!!!! ๐Ÿ˜ฒ :D ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

BEAT THE QUAKES AND CREW!!!!!

It's really good to see that Mathis is so excited to be playing. That has to be a great sign of things to come this year. If we have a motivated Mathis, we'll definitely cause problems for other teams up front. When he is on, he is really, really good.

I suppose we could go back & research this.

But what's the Internet for if not for misinformation & speculation?

If I recall from previous seasons, 1-1 seemed to be a pretty typical result for John Ellinger's MicroYanks when they played MLS teams in the preseason.

The Under 17s have been together for a while and MLS teams usually send out trialists, subs, rookies, etc.

According to the article in the DN, it seems as if they have actually beaten a few MLS teams in the past. I also seem to remember reading somewhere that they tied another MLS team this year too. It seems they do rather well against MLS teams in the preseason.

I take it that means their level of play is improving, which is the more important point. This is encouraging.
