I really wonder how the bill would break down as far as amount spent per capita. I don't think anyone would really miss $5 over the next year if the money was already taken from us in the form of taxes.

I think that by observing the revenue trends set forth this season at the U (a semi-downtown area with a trax station), the higher-ups will be able to determine whether Murray or Downtown would better serve the valley. That is where we the fans become very important. This first season, especially the first part this season, will show the suits exactly how the public feels about this "project".

HOWEVER... the author neglected to mention all the PUBLIC MONEY and the powerful influence, of friends in high places, that was exercised to help Larry H. Miller build the Delta Center...

Hmmmmm! an innocent oversight? Or blatant attempt to form public opinion against the stadium project...?

Let's us all look at the whole picture not just the bits that help our cause!

Can anyone enlighten me on this Holding site downtown?

I go past there on the TRAX several times a week, but I can't figure out where exactly a stadium would fit if it's the block I'm thinking of.

I think the plan is to tear down the grand America Hotel and Little America and re-route Trax. That would clear ample room. 😲

But In all seriousness the Holdings sight is probably the spot you are thinking of. It would take some creaative work to get a decent stadium on that sight, but it could be done.

yea, i drive by that sight everyday on my way to work and always picture a diferent size stadium on the lot. i would hope we could tear down the god-awful club across the street ( it used to be the Bay)but i doubt that would be an option. but as for parking i think it would just be a downtown nightmare unless they find some magical spot that hasnt been seen yet. Crossroads Mall parking isnt too far away. but i think if they really want fans coming back that drive and will not take advantage of Public transportation they will need to look into a new parking garage.

That reminds me... the feds want to tear down the Port O'Call building (not that the loss of Port O'Whore would be any great loss but I digress...) because it poses a security risk to the federal court building.

Presumably a 20-25K person stadium in the area would pose a security risk as well, wouldn't it?

That is true Clarette... The fed courthouse has to have a specific security zone surrounding it (A separation of the peasants from the ruling class or aristocracy)
The port o call is in a heated legal battle over the security zone.

I thought the stadium was proposed for the south east side of that intersection (correct me if I am wrong please)

Anyway I work down the street from there on 4th South and State.
If they build it there I will have free parking for the games! (carpool anyone?)

Parking is not an issue as I will be taking the train from Fort Union. It's cheaper and more convenient for me. I see very few reasons to ever drive downtown, especially for a soccer match.

Think about this; the best downtowns in the nation are not driver friendly. (San Diego's Gaslight District, San Fransisco, The Riverwalk in San Antonio, The Strip in Las Vegas, Manhattan). What makes a great downtown scene is foot traffic. The most driver friendly cities are also the most boring. (Phoenix, Sacramento, etc.)
